The owners at WQMS (????) AM had it listed on eBay.
Anyone know if it's on the air....
or sold....
or?????????????????????.............

still wondering if it could really work as a 'community-oriented' station...
variety format... kinda like old fashioned radio from another bygone era.
 
The real story on WQMS...

I assume it's on the air, but mmight be running low power.

The station's transmtiter is old and needs to be replaced, but even so.. the station would NOT have any sort of marketable signal in Meridian unless you added a 2nd tower and maybed jumped to 2.5KW.

I estimated the potential listeners in WQMS', *core* coverage area........... less then 7000!

Note: Core coverage area refers to good reception area that non raido people listen to. Yeha, a *radio* person might hear the station on a car in Meridian.. but nsomeone at home certianly wont.

They had it listed on Ebay for $50,000, then it went up to $115,000 based upon what "experts" in that market had aid. It didn't sel, it went down to $75,000.

The 16 month lease on the tower site, which is owned by 98.9/KLove is NOT continuable after the end and you will have to move the tower. They also assume because the other station in town doesnt take local advertising, everyone will jump at it if givena chance to on WQMS...

I've never been to Quitman, but I know several people who have considered plunking down a few bucks for it. What do you think, guys...could it ever work?

Its kind of funny I talked with the Fella who holds the Lic, for this Station, Could of had it for $30,000 an that was with him replacing the Transmitter. The station was Dark when i talked to him. He also made it sound like the Tower an Studios were re-newable after the 16 months....If I knew more about the area I would have considered it. Just because I hate to see a station sit Dark. Any little station can make some money even a daytimer I guess...

I hate to be a "bubble burster", but it probably would not work. The signal wouldn't reach Meridian, and Quitman has less than 3,000 population and continually declining, a lack of thriving industry, plus very little money to be had. It's a daytimer only, so you can't broadcast nighttime high school sports. Unfortunately, it probably would be radio suicide.
