QVC founder Joseph Segel dies at 88

Joseph Segel, the founder of QVC, died on Saturday, according to a news release from the company that owns the shopping channel. He was 88 years old.

He stepped down as chairman in 1993 -- a prescient move since that was the year that AOL really began to take off, setting the stage for the eventual online migration of shopping. By 2013, when he finally left his consulting role, he must have known that TV shopping's days were numbered. I wonder how much longer QVC can continue as primarily a TV operation. Or is it already doing most of its business online?
