QVC/HSN Layoff 400

Layoff have hit QVC/HSN. 400 were given pink slips on Wednesday March 1st. Laid off staffers include Program Hosts Dan Hughes (33 years with QVC), Carolyn Gracie (19 years with QVC), and Shannon Smith (30 years with HSN). This is on top of nearly 2000 warehouse works being laid off in 2022 after they decided to not rebuild a North Carolina warehouse after a December 2021 fire.

I hate to hear about layoffs in any industry but I won't miss either one of these business's should they eventually go face down.

The company swung from a profit of $340 million last year to a loss of $2.6 billion this year. The QVC/HSN division apparently went from a billion in operating profits last year to a nearly $2 billion operating loss this year.

Most of the balance of the loss was at the Zulily ecommerce division, where sales fell 28% year on year in Q4. 28%!!

YIKES! Those are the hallmarks of a company on a nosedive into nothingness.

David Rawlinson Qurate Retail’s president and chief executive officer said in a written statement “2022 was a challenging year for the company.”

QVC and HSN are antiquated shopping sources. The vast majority of the items that they sell take at least five days to arrive at your house. Look at alternative shopping sites.

Amazon has next day delivery, 2-day delivery, etc.

Walmart in certain cases has same-day delivery, 2-day delivery, hell you can order online and pick it up at your local store same-day in a lot of cases.

Target has many of the same options as Walmart.

Not to mention that, in many (not all) cases, many of the products on QVC are more expensive versions of stuff you can find elsewhere on the internet for less. Occasionally they might have a 'bundle' that's a good deal, but more often than not, one can do better elsewhere on price.

Just found out another Program Host from HSN was part of the lay-offs. Shannon Fox. 9 years with the network.

And a non on-air layoff from QVC - a lady named Siobain who was a buyer for the Denim and Company brand for the network for 16 years.

The above mentioned laid-off Carolyn Gracie hosted weekly Denim & Company shows. She mentioned about Siobain on her knew IG page. They recemtly had lunch and drinks together.
