QVC Plus Channel

Interesting. I am surprised QVC remains as popular as it is in the digital age. They are obviously doing something right if they can launch a second channel. They already have a live stream up for it in HD on their website.

Not to mention, they're now getting on the air OTA on some stations (primarily on most Ion O&O stations). I'm not sure if QVC Plus is cable/satellite & internet only, or if QVC Plus is also available OTA. Regardless, QVC wants their brand known, & will go as far as even being on OTA TV. W25DW-D 25.4 used to carry QVC, but got dropped when Ion Media got a deal worked out to carry QVC on their stations (in this case, Chicago's WCPX is on a full market signal, & on VC 38.5, rather than a signal that can only be seen by people in the city of Chicago & nearby south & southwest suburbs).

The QVC Wikipedia page (yeah, I know) says they are the #2 TV network in revenue and made $7.8 billion in revenue in 2010. They are now in 5 other countries (China, Germany, Italy, Japan, UK) besides the US (I'd heard about the UK but didn't know about the others).

[As a comparison, HSN, QVC's primary competition, just reported earlier this month that their net sales for the 6 months ended June 30 was $ 1.07 billion (I couldn't find a revenue number). HSN is also multi-national (Canada, Germany, Italy, Japan, the Philippines, UK), according to their Wikipedia page. Also that page states that in 2009, HSN.com was one of the top-10 most-trafficked e-commerce sites. HSN has a second channel, HSN2, as well.]

There used to be QVC and The Fashion Channel. Then Fashion Channel began airing on weekend a different fashion oriented channel called ON-Q. On-Q became Q2. Q2 was its own separate channel for a while, but originating from NYC rather than Philly. Eventually Q2 just started showing "The Best of QVC." Then they were shutdown and it's transponder was given to E!'s sister network Style.

HSN at one time has 3 services.

Home Shopping Network - Telephone number ended with 3100.

Home Shopping Club - Telephone number ended with 3200.

Home Shopping Spree. - Telephone number ended with 3400.

Then they shut down Home Shopping Club and Home Shopping Spree became America's Store. Eventually America's Store shut down. Then a couple years ago they launched HSN2, using the old America's Store phone number.

Old people.

Listen to who calls in and chats with the host.

That sounds about right. My 70 year old uncle stays up half the night flipping through the channels and has actually bought stuff from several shopping channels.
