QVC's new logo

Just noticed that QVC has changed its logo recently. But everything else is the same. The new logo just has the letter Q inside a thin red square. They claim that this move is meant to shift their focus away from the television roots to more of an e-commerce retailer. Given that Amazon is starting to become a major force within the digital world, it also introduced a new shopping app that will have an interactive video content feed. I wonder if this makeover of QVC can better compete with Amazon.

I am somewhat amazed that 24 hour home shopping TV channels are still a thing
in an age where shopping over the web has become so commonplace and convenient.

I think a lot of single, elderly or disabled people watch QVC and similar channels because they like the presentation and the products being sold. They see stuff they like, buy it, then stay tuned in so they don't miss a (perceived) bargain. TV shopping has a random aspect to it that online shopping doesn't. You go online to shop because you know what you're looking for and want to get the best price. The TV shopping viewer doesn't know what she (and occasionally he) wants to buy on turning on the TV but is willing to view a series of items and sales pitches and maybe buy something. Meanwhile, they've spent an enjoyable several hours instead of just staring at the walls. QVC does great business around Christmas because it's an easy way for Grandma to find lots of gifts for the whole family -- and for Mom to find similar items for the grandparents and kids.

I work for a home shopping channel (not that one) and can attest to that.
