QWK gone?

Hard to believe that rumor.
QWK is like Coca Cola. How could you screw that up?
Maybe there is a new QWK coming?

WRSC-FM, anyone?

Won't happen? Just like they'd never break up the old WALY morning crew, and send Dick packing to the AM?

Doesn't make sense. Quickrock actually has some listeners left who are too lazy to load an iPod, and at least some commercials. The one down the dial at 99.5 has neither. Besides they're already running WRSC's morning show on it, so just keeping it plugged into 1390 the rest of the day would be an easy move to make. They'd be smart to keep the simulcast since most of WRSC's listeners don't know how to work that newfangled FM dial yet, so ditching the AM would be a big risk.

On the other hand rock is dead and rock radio is disappearing at an rapid clip. Trouble is the younger rock listeners don't listen to radio anymore and the classic rock audience is made up of Senior Citizens. 40 year old songs attract 65 year old listeners. Tough to sell, I'd guess.

I'll believe the Quick rumor when I (don't) hear it. The way they've been cutting jocks loose in Altoona, it was probably just a matter of time before they got to trimming on-air staff in State College. But slicing payroll doesn't necessarily mean a format change.

But, hey, they march to the beat of a very different drummer. Lots of Korean kids now at PSU, so we shouldn't be surprised if we hear "Seoul 103.1" blaring Asian pop tunes in the near future.

I heard that was my....Dicks choice. couldn't live w/ the music and KC and he just didn't have the chemistry. But think what you will.....after all that old man said no loss. That's right. I'm off for a month aloha.

Now you're onto something!

Awww... you know what... this is really quite sad. I was really really really looking forward to a job as head "QWK chick". :-* I mean, I'm gonna need employment. HAHAHA. Or not. But either way, I will miss Troy and Jerry's objectification of women, lude discussions, sayings that probably make their moms cringe, and anything else that should be kept to satellite radio. Thanks.

Why would they take a solid format with good listenership and little competition like QWK and change it? If revenue is low ... that is a separate problem.
Stupid move! But maybe this is all guessing, But then again, they have made a series of stupid moves...

They must have been conned into thinking that PSU was taking their money.
Kind of thing that happens when you look around, paranoid-like, at everyone else instead of in the mirror. They don't appreciate and value QWK?
Sad.

Programming and sales aren't necessarily separate problems. I'll quote myself from the Central PA board where they're speculating on format changes: "And with all respect to those who would love to see another/better rocker, it's a format that's getting tougher and tougher to sell. Old white guys are terrible shoppers--and young white guys ain't listening to FM, no matter what songs you're playing."

That's why venerable rockers like Boston's WBCN are biting the dust, left and right.

That is too easy J&C.
That argument can be used for all formats.
If they kill QWK - it is yet another painful example of radio malpractice. These jokers have taken valuable brands, at great expense no doubt, and run them right into the ground. One after another. Hot, Lite, Jazz, CHR, Oldies....and now rock. Wow! Always the format- never the (upper) management (owners). It would be funny if jobs were not lost. As it is it can only be viewed as deplorable.
