It's hard to believe that 10 years have passed. This is a very special week for us at QX-FM. On September 18, 2002 KZQX-LP signed on the air. We were one of the first five applicants in Texas to receive a Low Power FM license from the FCC. We think we were the second LPFM station to sign on in Texas. That was our beginning. At the time, we were a paltry 45 watts with an antenna height of 45 feet. That's not much of a signal. After several months of cajoling the FCC to show them the error of their ways, we ended up with a much better signal of 74 watts with an antenna height of 85 feet. We were now more powerful than a string of Christmas Tree lights! Life was good as a Low Power FM station.
About three years ago, we had the opportunity to acquire a commercial broadcast frequency at 100.3. It was a big change. We continued to broadcast in Tylero on a translator on 97.9. Not long ago, we reached an agreement to be carried on KEBE, 1400 AM in Jacksonville. Now we cover the entire Tyler-Longview market. Not bad for a station that started out with just 45 watts.
