R&B 94.5

Why did it take so long for 94.5 to say R&B ? Hip Hop and todays hottest music sound so stupid . Hip Hop and R&B , now 94.5 got it right but Until 94.5 plays some Maxwell or Jill Scott music , 94.5 is not really playing real R&B .

Now when is Radio One going to get it right and put WILD on FM? Having another hip-hop and R&B station in Boston is so pointless. Why is it that we can't have a adult urban contemporary station on FM in Boston? WILD should be on 97.7 At least it would add a little variety to the FM dial instead of having two rap stations (94.5, 97.7), five rock stations (92.5, 92.9, 101.7, 104.1, 107.3), two AC stations (99.1, 106.7), and a classic rock (100.7), classic hits (105.7) and oldies (103.3) station that all overlap each other with their music. Kiss 108 sounds like a cross between Jam'n 94.5 and Mix 98.5 Even 93.7 Mike FM plays music that you can hear already hear on several other Boston stations.
______________

(though for rock stations, it's more like this: AAA (92.5, 92.9), Alternative/Active Rock (101.7, 104.1, 107.3)). I wouldn't really put 99.1 and 106.7 in the same category either; 99.1 is more like the standards station that we don't have.)

(also, unlike many Jacks, almost every single song on Mike can be heard on Mix, Kiss, ROR or ZLX.)

The problem really is that the stations that have lousy ratings like FNX, The River, to an extent Easy 99.1, have owners that are very reluctant to change the format. The River's signal isn't great in Greater Boston, and the ratings are lousy, yet the station pulls good books in NH. FNX is close to being beaten by Frank FM, a rimshot that doesn't even try to serve the Boston area (though it would have no chance) and has a signal actually far worse than that of WFNX (largely due to 106.3 WWKX).

WILD's ratings are remarkable for an AM-daytimer signal. Radio One would be wise to can Hot 97.7 and move WILD at 97.7, considering the new and improved signal. They could throw a simulcast of WOL or some gospel on the 1090 signal.

holy kazooba..where have you been...they've said that for a long time..they just changed a FEW words...now they say "Boston's OFFICIAL #1 for blazing hip hop and R&B"...i'm loving the fact that top 40 is leaning more towards hip hop..

We have a standards station, WJIB AM 740, and it's even broken the whole number barrier in the ratings since WXKS-AM changed format.

I know you're talking about FM stations, but WJIB sounds almost as good as FM on a wideband C-Quam AM Stereo tuner within most of Route 128 in the daytime.

Radio One In Boston (Was: Re: R&B 94.5)

I don't think Radio One will move WILD to FM or replace WILD's format at 1090 on the AM dial with Black Gospel until and unless the company can get a second FM signal in the Boston area, preferably a strong Class "B" signal (WBOT-97.7 is a Class "A").

Were Radio One to acquire a strong Class "B" FM station, the WBOT calls/format would move from 97.7 to the new acquisition (which might give WJMN-94.5 a real run in the Arbitrons), WILD's calls/format would move to 97.7, and a Black Gospel daytimer would replace WILD at 1090.

Kiss 108 is a Mainstream Top 40 station, so it's really no surprise that they play the big hits heard on Jamn and Mix - that's what a Pop station does. It plays the biggest hits from a number of formats/genres.

There isn't an Urban AC in Boston b/c the black population, in terms of percentage, is smaller in Beantown when compared to say New York or Chicago, and MUCH smaller when compared to Washington or Memphis.
Edited by CHRles on 08/21/05 05:28 AM.

With respect to WILD, I hope not. IF WILD ended up on 97.7, it would render me unable to hear it at all in the Chelmsford/Nashua area. And, WILD comes in fine there now. Too bad that there's not another available signal for Radio One to grab in the area, but there's not. And, there probably won't be one in the forseeable future either...

About everything else, you are right. Boston's FM dial is quite lacking in variety - IMO.
