(though for rock stations, it's more like this: AAA (92.5, 92.9), Alternative/Active Rock (101.7, 104.1, 107.3)). I wouldn't really put 99.1 and 106.7 in the same category either; 99.1 is more like the standards station that we don't have.)
(also, unlike many Jacks, almost every single song on Mike can be heard on Mix, Kiss, ROR or ZLX.)
The problem really is that the stations that have lousy ratings like FNX, The River, to an extent Easy 99.1, have owners that are very reluctant to change the format. The River's signal isn't great in Greater Boston, and the ratings are lousy, yet the station pulls good books in NH. FNX is close to being beaten by Frank FM, a rimshot that doesn't even try to serve the Boston area (though it would have no chance) and has a signal actually far worse than that of WFNX (largely due to 106.3 WWKX).
WILD's ratings are remarkable for an AM-daytimer signal. Radio One would be wise to can Hot 97.7 and move WILD at 97.7, considering the new and improved signal. They could throw a simulcast of WOL or some gospel on the 1090 signal.
