R&B crooner Gerald Levert dies at 40

I remember his first hit with his brother Sean and their friend Marc Gordon, as Levert back in 1986 with "Pop, Pop, Pop, Pop (Goes My Mind)" (from "Bloodline"). When I first heard that song, I thought that the O'Jays were back with another jam, then I heard the DJ said that it was a new group called Levert. It blew my mind!!! I remember getting their second CD "The Big Throwdown" (which featured "Casanova"), and I was fascinated by these guys. Later, when Gerald went solo, I got his first 2 CD's ("Private Line", "Hold On") and I knew that he got it goin' on. His music will live on, and he will be sorely missed.

Damn. There goes another R&B great before his time. Unfortunately, I don't see a lot of replacements in the R&B world. The pop music has gone hip-hop. I fear traditional R&B (based on music made by musicians playing actual instruments) will soon be as dead as Gerald and Luther.

God rest their souls.
