R&B making a comeback?

Just as you all have talking about R&B's demise and everything, I've been listening to Urban KKBT here in LA and they have actually been playing quite a bit of R&B lately.

For example.

They are big on Marques Houston's Naked and the new Ginuwine as well. Keysha Cole's I should have cheated is getting big spins. And Alicia Keys Unbreakable is taking off as well.

And Urban AC KJLH, also here in LA is suprisingly focusing on a good amount of new R&B. Playing all the mentioned artists plus Avila Brothers Want You and new Dwele, Shanice, and Mint Condition. New R&B might be dead where you are, but in LA it's suprisingly thriving! Well mabye not suprisingly since KKBT and KJLH might be doing that due to facing various comeptition from Rhythmic Oldies KHHT, Hip Hop KPWR, Hip Hop KDAY, and Hurban KXOL. But still, quite a bit of stuff out.
______________

That indeed is a BIG plus for LA. Now if only all of the other markets would follow suit and put on REAL R&B in their mix, they can stop "pretending" that they are labeling themselves as "hip-hop and R&B" and bring back the true roots of the format.

When I heard that R&B has FINALLY found its real footing, I can't help than to say, good job!
______________

I co-sign. A true Urban in any market should be willing to be able to go out on a limb and play R&B songs. The problem with most of today's Urbans are in corporate combos that are polarized to the point that little to no true R&B is given any play unless its on the market's Urban AC. I believe R&B is making a comeback bigger and better than ever.

R & B IS making a comeback because we are sick and tired of angry rap songs which glorify the Ghetto, shootings, gangs, stealing, bling-bling, hookers, and more. I know lots of African Americans who are simply trying to make it, with higher education, job training and plain old working hard. And this corporate rap and hip-hop will be dead in two years. Is the letter 4 pronouced "foh"? NO.
It's four, and don't you forget it. How about "my boy". No, think of something straight. And what about the "hip-hop" clothes....you'll never get a good job presenting yourself this way. I am sick and tired of this junk. It's bad for the kids. No, we must get out of the Ghetto and into the real world. I challenge program directors and agency media buyers to stop supporting this garbage. Hip-hop is dead, or it will be shortly. Advertising agencies take note. Let's take away the money to stop it.

I agree with most of what you're saying FMSteve, but hip hop won't be totally dead. Just the gangsta rap and the lamest of lame songs like "Laffy Taffy".

Thanks for pretending to care...and expressing pretty much every generalization an outsider could lob at hip-hop. Simply say you aren't a fan, and move on.
______________
