R.I.P., Al Alberts

Last week, I was shocked to learn that Al had taken ill and was hospitalized. I am deeply saddened to learn of his passing this morning. Al was a true piece of Philly Americana, a local Philly school boy, with professed talents that made him an international recording star and a Philadelphia Broadcast Television Pioneer. Al has always been one of my favorite local personalities and was unquestionably a local legend and genuine Philly favorite. Earlier this summer I was honored to conduct an interview with Al for the Broadcast Pioneers of Philadelphia. You can hear it here. http://hylitradio.com/alalberts

When I was a young and dumb teenager I met Al at a fundraiser in Chester (my hometown too, back in the day). He also would come to the Acme in Ridley, PA where I had my first job. I used to "forget" to scan some of his items because I knew that he was giving away most of his items to people that needed them. Very illegal, and dumb on my part, but at the time I thought I was doing my part to help! He was a genuinely nice guy to meet in person, and the coulple dozen times that I interacted with him, that never changed. God bless.

I wonder if tapes of Alberts' show he did from Hersheypark back in the early 70's still exist?

Some years back I saw a post on a theme park website ( Theme Park Review? ) where an employee from Hersheypark claimed that the tapes DO exist but are locked up in storage somewhere at Hersheypark, however shortly afterward yet another employee from Hersheypark claimed the park not only doesn't have the tapes but even denied there was such a program in the first place even though the Al Alberts/Hersheypark TV show was brought up in that Charles Jacques book that was published some years back on the history of Hersheypark.
