Just got word that former 3WS afternoon drive man, and WWNL 1080 GM Glen B. (Bumper) Morgan is dead.

Bumper was also at WXLO and WNBC in New York City, and ran a DJ service in Pittsburgh.

Yeah they were talking about him on 3WS this morning. I thought he was a great afternoon DJ in Pittsburgh. I remember listening to him on 3WS and the old Variety 96

Bumper Morgan Aircheck 3WS

Just uploaded a 3WS Bumper Morgan aircheck from earlier this decade (supposedly September 2004, but I'm not sure).

Get it here: http://s52.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=380HGVNRXM44X01NZRODFHX9AF

Thank you Johnny for posting this aircheck. Hearing this was magical.

While I like listening to Mike Frazer, there was nobody better for that afternoon gig than Bumper. Listening to Bumper was like listening to a friend.

I met him a couple of times at the Summer Oldies Celebrations. A true professional and nice guy.

Rest in Peace Bumper.

I interviewed him after he went to WWNL. He seemed happy there, but one wonders how happy or creative one could be on a station that does nothing but run ministry tapes all day long. (It may have been a calling, never rule that out ... there are some sincere broadcasters in Christian radio and TV, though it too is a business as much as secular broadcasting is.) Still, I had the impression he was largely a one-man show there. I hope that didn't contribute to a seemingly-all-too-soon passing.

Requiescat in pacem.

Before he was Bumper Morgan, he was Fred Merrin at WENE, Endicott, NY. There is an aircheck of him from 1976 on my website here:

And that's interesting because Fred Merrin is his given name, but he worked in NYC as "Glen(n) Morgan" then later as "Bumper Morgan" in PGH.

Thanks for the a/c Jon.

I left Pittsburgh before Bumper Morgan and Clarke Ingram. I thought that Clark Race . Porky, and Ravin'Dave Scott were they last of the powerful personalities. Jim Quinn was just starting when I left for Big WAYS country , later BIG LEE land and now Q105. But obviously as the great DJ's
of the sixties passed on, new ones took their place and hopefully new ones will continue to be born as Rege Cordic passsed his torch down the line to whom I don't know. But if the seventies could produce beloved jocks , the maybe there are dreams yet to come.

Wow, you've been away for a while. Dave Scott left KQV in 1968 and Clark Race departed KDKA in 1970. Suffice to say, there have been many powerful personalities since then.

I'm sure there are many more airchecks from his Binghamton days that will surface in the days to come. He was also on WKOP and WNBF up here using his given name before he headed to NYC.
______________

Re: Bumper Morgan Aircheck 3WS

Bumper Morgan was my morning guy (briefly) at 104.7 the Beat before going back to 3WS. We've had some interesting career parallels, both working in upstate NY, both doing Top 40 in NYC, both working at 96.1, 3WS, and WJJJ here, and now it looks like we've both closed our careers making sure the paid programming runs properly on a couple of AM stations.

Bumper was a true gentleman and a consummate professional, and he will be greatly missed.

Rest in peace, old friend.
