R.I.P. Chris Kidd.

I was Chris Kidd's last news director at KTHO in 2000 and knew something of his history, hopes and dreams.

He started out at WICC in Bridgeport, Connecticut. One of the first stations he owned was a small AM in Truckee, California in the 1980's.

After his KTHO years, Christ moved to Alameda and did weekend news for KGO and Metro Networks. But he still kept a small boat anchored at South Lake Tahoe.

Chris acquired (and then sold) several
CP's, including some UHF television LP's
and translators.

He did the engineering studies and was granted a CP for a Reno AM statiion right in the center of the dial around 2000. I had looked forward to doing a little something with him on that project.

By the way, Chris posted in this formum as "Newsperson".

I will miss running into him on many weekdays around 5pm when he checked his Eastern Sierra Broadcasting post office box in South Lake Tahoe.

Chris was a colorful character and one of a kind with a "never-give-up" kind of drive. Sort of "pick yourself up, dust yourself off and start all over again".

And he did it with a good spirit and sense of humor.

He treated me alright and I will miss him.
