R.I.P. Connie Hines at 79...Carol Post on "Mister Ed"

Not many Connies left... I had a "grandma" Connie across the street when I was a little boy.
I knew one Connie who was 3 years younger than I in school.
Haven't met or heard of too many lately.
Time to put this name back into circulation, those of you in child bearing years.
We've added one Violet and one Frances. My wife and I love "old Lady" names.

Not to seem inappropriate, but I thought Connie was a pretty good lookin' babe in those Mister Ed episodes. Always wondered how Wilbur managed to hook such a catch - I just chalked it up to TV magic.

Shocking to me that she was that old and has just passed.

I'll take offense to that...as a proxy for Alan Young (who just turned 90). :-\ I always thought Wilbur was a nice looking fellow...perhaps in a slightly nerdy way. In any case, the difference between the two was not nearly as striking as more recent sitcom couples - Jim Belushi and Courtney Thorne-Smith, for example. Or how about Jamie Gertz and Mark Addy in Still Standing. Now there was a striking difference.

RE: Connies. I'm a baby boomer and there were a lot of Connies where I grew up. I talked with one at my 40th high school reunion last summer - a lovely person. I work with a few, too...also 'boomer' age. So the name is still with us.

RIP Ms Hines.

I thought that comment was a funny one as well. Being just ahead of the Boomer rush I can also remember a bunch of Connie's growing up. I know two ex-co-workers with that name and had a girlfriend in high school named Connie. And then there was THE Connie - Francis of course who is still one of my musical favorites.

I'm sure I could remember more except....well, I'm.....er.....ah.....what were we talking about again? ???

Yes, she was a very attractive "babe". I was approaching at an age to appreciate such women. She really didn't do much on Mr. Ed as I recall. Mostly said, Wilbur your lunch is ready. I wonder if she did much acting after Mr. Ed.

In fact, she did do some acting after "Mr. Ed" ceased production. I saw her on an episode of "Love, American Style" several years ago. A side note: my late Mom went to school with Ms. Hines while living in Dedham, Massachusetts. My Mom told me that when Connie started "Mr. Ed", the Town of Dedham, Massachusetts had a Connie Hines Day where she received a big homecoming. I must say, Ms. Hines was a very pretty woman. RIP.

There's always been the question of why, given her looks, Wilbur Post
would spend so much time with a horse. :)

Actually, the public first saw her on the game show "Dotto" in 1958.
Her pre-test showed she wasn't all that bright, but the producers were
apparently taken with her and decided that she would win anyway; I
think she won two games. She was open about the fact that she had
been given help, which probably saved her career. Before "Mr. Ed," she
appeared on many of the dramatic series of the late '50s/early '60s; she
was one of many, many recipients of John Beresford Tipton's million-dollar
checks, for example.

Steve Beverly noted this week (doing an obit on Hines based on her "Dotto"
appearances) that in 1965 "Mr. Ed" was relegated to the 5 PM Sunday slot
on CBS. When CBS pre-empted it and "Ted Mack's Amateur Hour" for football
doubleheaders five weeks in a row, the producers decided they'd had enough;
production ceased and most of the episodes aired in calendar year 1966 were
reruns.

I checked IMDB, Wikipedia, and many other sources and they have no report of her death, and some sources say her death has not been verified yet. But if it indeed did occur, sadly, RIP, she was a very attractive actress. That would make Alan Young the only remaining cast member still alive.
