At the top of today's (February 20th) noon newscasts (I'm writing this just after Noon) on WBZ-4, WCVB-5 and WHDH-7, it was announced that former Boston Red Sox radio and TV play-by-play announcer Curt Gowdy has died in Florida after a long battle with Leukemia.

After leaving Boston, Gowdy worked for many years on network television at NBC, ABC and even one year doing NFL games on CBS, where he became perhaps the best play-by-play sports broadcaster who ever lived; certainly, he was the most versatile. He called 13 World Series and seven Super Bowls.
