R.I.P. FSR's Zakk & Jack Show

Stephen A.'s name came up on Czabe's show earlier this week, which prompted Czabe to make a vague reference to some additional, sweet justice coming down the pike vis-a-vis the morning time slot at FSR. The logical inference was that the Zakk & Jack Show was about to be put out to pasture, and this Indy Star blog confirms it:

http://blogs.indystar.com/philb/2011/12/16/good-afternoon-colts-fans-dec-16-2011/

And some additional sleuthing turned up this blog, which indicates that Andy Furman and Artrell Hawkins will be the replacements:

Trudeau's o.k., as I like his former-NFL-QB insight, but that Zakk character is absolutely insufferable.

When does Don Martin get the Axe for failure. Maybe I need to visit the Corporate Headquarters and step on some toes.

Love how a couple of losers on this board rip Bruno and his alleged failures. His morning show lasted 4 years on FSR before Clear Channel decided to go cheap and hire Van Earl Wright. How long did that fiasco or any other susequent replacement last?

I don't understand FSR dropping Czaban. I think Z&J show was probably a fine local show, but I don't think it translated well to a national audience. My questions, did the FSR folks really expect it to?

Why not move DP to the morning slot in the east and central time zones?

They're still listed on the FSR site, what gives?

That's been standard operating procedure for FSR every time they dump a show. Until the replacement show formally debuts, they will still promote the axed show as if nothing has happened....especially during a dead holiday period like it is now. Even today, Andy Furman was on the air using the Zakk and Jack intro music, and claimed he was in "in for Zakk and Jack." That should change next week.

The decision to kick Steve Czaban out is looking dumber and dumber as time goes by. I still don't understand their reasoning for letting him go.

Remember: Czabe was and still is employed by Washington DC's ESPN Radio outlet, owned by the owner of the Washington Redskins, Dan Snyder.

It was far more likely internal politics that drove him off of FSR. That, and he wasn't a part of the KLAC airstaff.

No word from FSR to affiliates yet about ZNJ being replaced.

Letting Czaban go was an epic fail but I see the reasoning that since he's an East Coast guy and Don Martin is an LA guy with myopic vision.

ZNJ wasn't completely horrible but not completely great either. I always felt that they didn't hurt us (altho they didn't help us tremendously)

Do they really think that Andy Furman is the answer?

FSR has been in freefall and just throwing on bad show after bad show since 2005. They had a great challenger to ESPN when Tony Bruno was doing mornings from the launch until Clear Channel decided too many bad contracts kept corporate from making a profit, so they chased out their best talent and it's been a revolving door since then. Not 1 show on the network now is worthy of national clearance. Simply an easy and cheap way to provide company owned stations with programming. Since most of the affiliates have little or no sales or local shows to run instead, they take what ever LA throws out there. Sadly, it is still the 2nd best network since Yahoo/sporting news is virtually unheard in any market of significance and just takes whatever ESPN and FSR scraps are left. Don Martin is just doing what CC wants him to. Program his LA station, compete with ESPN's LA station without the overhead of Lakers, USC rights fees, and pretend that the rest of the country doesn't realize it's local programming and he is keeping the whole mess under his "number". In case you haven't noticed in all of these threads about who is better, no one running these 3 remaining companies with all of the stations really cares if it's good or bad. Hello!

I loved FSR's old lineup when they had Czabe in the morning then CNote & jDub, Chris Meyers was a bit dry for me but not bad for mid day talent (mid day on the west coast at least) Andrew Sciliano & Krystal I liked very much too.
It was a good lineup, entertaining, informative and with the exception of Czabe all the rest of the shows were west coast based and truth be told "Out of bounds" with Shemon & JDub was ostensibly the "morning show" for the west coast and that was a pretty damn good show too!

Martin hasn't replaced Czaban with anyone "LA." Stephen A. Smith was as New York City as it gets.

I realize that Stephen A Smith is very New York.....but if you look at the bulk of what FSR airs it is west coast/LA.

Stephen A Smith was fine for New York and some major east coast markets but not the medium and smaller markets around the country. ZNJ are mid-west but too dull for a morning drive show.

After listening to a little of Andy Furman the last two mornings, I fear that FSR affiliates on the east coast will continue to lose morning drive to ESPN and now Yahoo Sports.

Well Since Zakk and Jack started as a weekend show on Saturday nights i believe on FSR. if they dont totally get dumped from the network. they will possibly still have the saturday night slot. the only reason they started to inch to the morning slot was the show they had was given some midwest clearances including in their home market of indianapolis on WNDE. and i think Odds are Andy FUrman is probably working out of WSAI's Cincinnati Studios for his part of the show

I just saw this on foxsportsradio.com:
FOX Sports Daybreak featuring Andy Furman and Artrell Hawkins- Monday - Friday, 6am-9am ET

I really enjoyed Zakk & Jack. It wasn't the arrogant sports talk you got on the four letter and MDR. Shame to see them go. FSR lost a morning listener as Furman is just not very good. I turned off FSR when they canned Czabe and am now going to do it again.

I agree. I really thought that was the best FSR lineup; I don't know how long it was for, but I enjoyed CJ Silas when she teamed up with Chris Myers.
