My fondest memories of Joel A. were when I was a University of Houston student in 1959...and lucky enough to land a week-end overnight shift at KILT-AM, Houston. Joel was the AM jock and he used to let me sit with him in the studio and watch as he blew cigarette smoke rings around the mic and worked his magic. I was simply in awe of his talent. What a genius, with his dry, sarcastic humor that worked so well. I left to take a full-time position at the competition and finally hooked up with him in the 80s. I will forever be in debt for Joel's kindness. He was and still is one of my heroes. God bless him!
