R.I.P. KLSX

FM Talk in Boss Angeles is dead.

And with it, any hope for entertaining, original talk on the radio.

Go ahead and gloat, all you guys who think "talk radio" should be nothing but totally predictable, by-the-book, conservaclone ranting.

You've won.

Not sure what CBS was doing wrong with their Free FM format (I'm not a listener), but Clear Channel has been winning with "Real Radio" WTKS FM in Orlando for over a decade, book after book. Hot Talk can work.

According to NTS MediaOnline today, Leykis and the KLSX midday show were #1 Males 25-54.

The station had been talk since 1995. CBS just blew up a successful talk station with 14 years in the market on FM in favor of a CHR format which is already airing on three other stations in the market. Seems like madness to me.

And if Clear Channel flipped WTKS-FM tomorrow I would not be surprised in the least.

WTKS has strong ratings though. I guess the difference between Real Radio and Free FM is that Free FM had all these expensive on air talents from the start. I don't think any Free FM station did well in a major market except for Leykis in a few east coast markets and Opie & Anthony in NYC.
