R.I.P. Live 365 1999-2016

Radionomy also purchased Shoutcast/Winamp from AOL a couple years ago. So they seem to have big plans for internet radio.

Unfortunately for Warner that's a pretty bad investment. The last estimates I saw had something like 40-50% of Deezer's userbase as inactive. That's users who are paying for the service indirectly through their phone/internet provider but still are not using it. That's pretty bad. Deezer appears to only keep afloat because of their partnerships and should those crumble in the future they likely will crumble as well.
 
What about Z92.7 (WHIZ-FM) in Zanesville, OH? Not only it will affect online stations, it will also affect terrestrial FM and AM stations who use Live365. Where will Z92.7 go after January 31st?

That was always a secondary business for Live365, so not that many stations to worry about. I'm sure they'll all find streaming hosts, although there may be a gap starting February 1 as stations move. (I don't know why any of them use services when the code is available to run their stream via whatever ISP provides their website hosting and e-mail.)

Exactly. Part of Live's funding problem was that it sometimes hurts to be a pioneer. They provided a service at a time when there were a lot fewer options. Now there are loads of places for stations to go for streaming services. TuneIn had the same problem a few years ago. Their business model worked before the major companies built their own platforms. They kind of reinvented themselves a few years ago, raised a lot of investment money, made business partnerships, and they seem to be doing OK. Not so for Live365.
 
I used to have a station on Live365 called "Music Is Life," but it was a drain on my finances, since I had 3 different payment schemes in play. Even so, I'm pissed off that Live365 is quitting the business!

Has anybody (with some cash and a lawyer) approached the CRB and asked for a hobby/non-profit/microcaster web station royalty fee that would be reasonable to keep their hobby station on the air?
 
I've discussed this with label folks, and I can tell you they are not interested in any return of Small Webcasters Act. It's simply not popular among the rank & file. The war cry is getting value for music, and giving a discount devalues music. So I don't have a good feeling about this.

If there was an interest in anything, it would be for stations that only play new releases. Not 80s catalog music.

Not to mention that online petitions get the desired result less than 1% of the time.
