R.I.P. Patrick McGoohan at 80: "The Prisoner" & "Secret Agent"/"Danger Man"

Re: R.I.P. Patrick McGoohan at 80: "The Prisoner" & "Secret Agent"/"Danger Man"

While I enjoyed all three of McGoohan's John Drake
series (assuming "The Prisoner" was indeed Drake),
my favorite of his roles was as the warden in "Escape
From Alcatraz"; Clint Eastwood's character, Frank Morris,
always seemed to get the better of him. Perhaps best
left unmentioned is McGoohan's 1977 CBS series "Rafferty,"
where he looked like he'd put on a lot of weight.

Many people thought McGoohan was English, since he spent
so much of his career there. Actually, he was from New York.

Another fine actor is performing in the celestial media.

Loved the Johnny Rivers theme song "Secret Agent Man" played at the beginning and during the closing credits of "Secret Agent." John Drake was the name of McGoohan's character.

The popularity of that series (in my opinion) also led to the U.S. release of "The Avengers" which already had several successful seasons running in the UK before it came here.

In "The Prisoner" McGoohan's characeter was simply called "Number 6." Since McGoohan helped create the show he was inspired by the John Drake character.

That is a shame, I really enjoyed his acting skills.

AMC is showing the complete series of the Prisioner on the web. Every episode, with behind the scenes photos. I just found that link last night by accident, and this morning I read that he died.

Here is the link: http://www.amctv.com/originals/the-prisoner-1960s-series/

Which is why I said "assuming" he was John Drake. Many people have
thought that, since McGoohan helped create "The Prisoner," it was a continuation
of "Secret Agent," although that is never made clear.

One of my favorite prison flicks -- McGoohan was perfect as the warden.

True, born in the States, but Irish (not English) through and through. His parents were Irish immigrants and they returned to The Old Sod not long after his birth, so his U.S. citizenship is a mere technicality.
