R.I.P. Skip Caray

Though I live in CT, I could thank Cablevision for, by WTBS, a chance to hear and see the great voice of Skip Caray. I hope he and his dad Harry are up there calling the big baseball broadcast. I had heard about it on ESPN's broadcast.

I thought he sounded his best a couple of years ago whenever he worked PBP with Chip on the Braves b-casts. R.I.P. Skip.

Well that's just too sad. There must be a bunch of people at White Columns who worked with him, I'd love to hear the stories they have to tell about him.

Just found out the news myself, so I was curious and wanted to check out the AM radio coverage.  Right now, WSB 750 is going wall-to-wall coverage with Mark Arum taking live phone calls for at least the next few hours and even going commercial-free between 10PM-11PM.

Ironicially, the Braves Flagship station, WGST 640, is airing a syndicated political national show, so you be the judge on that one.

Prayers and thoughts go out to the Caray family at this time.  His voice will be missed.

Maybe Chip Caray was right to leave Chicago in 2005. Chip left the best baseball gig in the country to be closer to Skip who he felt didn't have much time. Though I wasn't a fan of his, I know how Braves fans feel. When we lost Harry it took all the fun out of going to the ballpark.

In honor of Skip's death, Turner Field was a partial sellout with most of the fans dressed as navy blue seats.

My condolences to the entire Carabina family.

This is amazing that within the last few days we had a thread about his health and most of us discussed good things about him. Now he is gone and will be missed. I expect that we should be getting news on Larry Munson sometime soon also. These guys don't liver forever.

Condolences to the Carey family.

It just shows you how we hang by a thread everyday we wake.

Be nice to each other, you never know when it will be our last.

Skip was awesome.. I now know that he and my Father are in Heaven discussing sport's.

When I worked for the Braves network at WSB, I was introduced to Skip. I couldn't believe how humble he was. He took the time to introduce his son Josh to me and chat about the Braves upcoming season. When I remember him being at his best was when he and Fred Hickman did the Hawks games. The Hawks were awful. The worst the Hawks were losing the funnier Skip would be. I would always hope the Hawks were down by 40 at halftime just to listen the Skip and Fred's comedy act. A truly great one of a kind voice has fallen silent.

Started watching the Braves when cable TV brought the games to my area back in the 70's. Sunday evenings, there would be aournd 3 or 4 thousand people in the stands, the Braves would be losing, but they would be loads of fun to watch because of Skip.

When the winning started, he was just as great and kept me as a fan. My wife woke me up with the news last night and I am still sad this morning.

Goodbye, and Godspeed Skip. And thanks for sharing all those hot summer nights with us.

Thoughts and condolences to the Caray family, and the Braves family every where.

One night Carmelo Martinez was on deck in a light rain... Skip observed, "Carmelo is not a dry Martinez..."

Maybe one of the best lines ever.

Such sad news. He will definitely be missed.

Now who's going to tell us the hometown of the fans who catch foul balls?!

About the only thing that could wipe the perma-scowl off my face when board-oping yet another Braves game on yet another holiday was hearing Skip and Pete yukking it up on the network. The worse the Braves were doing, the more enjoyable it was to listen to Skip. And those of you in the biz who were fortunate enough to make it to the radio network affiliates weekend know how much of a ham he was at those events, too. He'll definitely be missed.

When he did that call in show a few years ago - for me - was the best radio I've heard. His crotchety nature coupled with the callers intentionally tweaking him with silly questions was great theater.
