R.I.P. Trane On The Radio

Sad to report the passing of "Trane On The Radio," known for his nearly two decades in afternoon drive on the Big Ape. He died of heart failure yesterday afternoon. Incidentally, his heart was "his biggest asset," according to former WAPE PD Cat Thomas. "He cared about people and loved radio."

Most recently, Trane (born Karl Whitaker) was heard on Magic 105.9 in Brunswick, GA, not too far from St. Simons Island, where he relocated to a few years ago.

Trane was a great guy and will be missed.
I've known him since around '77 when he (as Karl) was on BBQ and i was on AUG.

RIP Karl Whittaker aka Chris Trane
 
I listened to him on Kicks 106 in Birmingham in the early to mid 80's. He was one of the best in Birmingham during that era.
