Raccoon will be so pleased!

Well I found this little bit old information on the EcoTalk Blog. Ecotalk on AAR has recently moved to 12-1pm on Saturdays from its early morning Sunday slot. I think it used to be on i.e. America long ago. Well, it has gone begging- flat out, for money and advertisers. Here is a bit (with a comparison that goes too far IMHO):

"In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina's global-warming fueled fury, EcoTalk has also found itself in an unexpected emergency as Air America Radio, in its own need to remain sustainable, has begun charging many weekend shows to remain on the air."

There are a number of weekend shows on AAR and I wonder if any of the others are in the same situation.

I guess the new management isn't putting up with any weekend losers. You gotta pay for play from now on. Still, I wish her luck. Moving to Noon on Saturday can only help.

Good. Maybe this will get rid of the blogging losers who think having a radio show is like getting a new puppy. Wheeee!

We had to deal with a foot of "global warming" today in Boston.
Icy roads meant it took me 3 hrs 45 min. to go 18 miles. (And yes,
I know "global warming leads to wacky weather", or maybe...). Wasn't global
cooling the big bugaboo a couple decades back? I guess THAT came true.

Maybe these shows can have pledge drives complete with Earth-friendly
tote bags :)

I got stuck on icy roads myself- not much fun. Todays climate scientists are a little more advanced than those of the 70s (3 decades ago). I always hear a lot of "many/some scientists think..." blather when they discuss global warming on local TV. Hell, isn't the Meteorologist a scientist? What does s/he think for goodness sake.

A Meterologist is more technician than scientist. Gathers and reacts
to data produce forecasts of short to moderate range.

Now a climatologist more closely resembles a scientist, dealing in
analysis of the past and projecting it far into the future.
Meterology deals in local conditions (well, maybe regional) whereas
Climatology is concerned with global conditions over years, decades,
centuries.

Now the big question!

Since Global Warming is the Chicken-Little is the current buzz, how
long before some TV station ADDS a resident climatologist to their
staff and starts nightly analysis of how many people smoked today
and the impact of THAT on what's likely to happen over the next
thousand years? Sponsorhip? Should be able to sell it entirely,
not just spots, to pushers....nay, vendors....of anti-anxiety drugs!
Thar's gold in that thar BS!

You may recall during the Clinton administration all the TV meteorologists being summoned to DC to get the scoop on global warming then going back to their respective TV stations to "sound the alarm". <P ID="signature">______________

Air America - Call Art Bell and Whitley Streiber

Seems that Air America shows consisting only of interviews (and no callers) are the least entertaining of all the AAR shows. Although I am not sure about Eco-Talk, I do recall that the Air America weekend show with Bobby Kennedey Jr. originally didn't take calls, but I think they do now, correct?

Seems that Art Bell and Whitley Streiber have done more enviromental shows than just about anyone else. If I was Air America, I would call Art and Whitley and ask them to go on every Sunday night 10pm-1am EST for an ecology show, following Laura Flanders. Recall those were the same Sunday hours for Dreamland with Art (and later with Whitley).

Re: Les? Are you moderating?

Les I see your name here again...

Did you change your mind and decide to moderate?

BTW, how's your oak tree doing?

If nobody's moderating should we take nominations?

Hmmmm...let's see here. How about Michael Harrison, Ellen Ratner, and Victoria Jones of Talkers Magazine???!!!
