Just some comments:
1. I suppose NBC 30 can put Rachael Ray's talk show on at 3PM, as long as they give The People's Court to another station. I would say if they were to dump People's Court it would likely go to FOX 61/CW 20 as before it moved to NBC 30 it aired on News Channel 8/WB-59 (now MY-9)
2. NBC 30 can not air Rachael Ray at 11AM as they have to run Martha. If memory serves Martha was renewed for a second Season. Martha and Starting over are both syndicated shows distributed by NBC, but don't air on the network.
3. CW 20 can not dump the 10AM Catholic Mass as that has they've had a contract to run that since the days when WTXX showed Home Shopping Club 15 hours a day.
4. Don't look for anything to change in the morning on FOX 61/CW 20 right now. I hear Tribune is on the verge of collapsing and may be selling all their broadcast holdings. They just sold their Atlanta Station and their Albany Station.
That brings up three Questions:
1. Who could buy FOX 61/CW 20?
2. Would a new owner buy both FOX 61/CW 20?
3. If FOX 61/CW 20 end up under seperate ownership, will CW 20 move their "Studios" back to the Waterbury area?
As for #4 -
Tribune has stated they will not sell any assets in NY, LA and Chicago. And, I bet they'd keep KWGN 2 in Denver and their other successful VHF assets. I'd bet the Philadelphia station WPHL (which is getting the weaker My affiliation not CW), possibly their market holdings in some smaller markets (like Harrisburg and Grand Rapids) might be divested first, and maybe they'd call it a day, and not need to sell anymore stations.
Meredith or Clear Channel, which has Fox affiliations, could buy out certain small market Fox stations. Clear Channel has lot of cash, right?
Meredith won't be able to buy out the station in Hartford, however. Fox won't buy it out, because of the ownership cap. I don't think they'd sell out any of their small market stations (like Kansas City) to buy stations in slightly larger markets, to balance their cap b/c those smaller market stations (in Kansas City, Milwaukee, Nashville, etc.) that they own are dominant VHF stations; Fox couldn't trust another company like Clear Channel, who could revert it to CBS or another network.
As Tribune - for Boston and even Hartford stations, I think they will hold onto them longer.
I think Tribune didn't put much investment into their stations, and led them to become underperforming assets. They were able to keep KWGN as a performer, because it had its VHF heritage. They weren't as successful with their UHF assets, like WPHL.
One has to consider. Baltimore's WBFF 45 (Fox) has a morning news program. They are DMA #24. FOX 5 in DC has significant coverage into that market as well, moreso than FOX5/WB11 from NYC into CT. Hartford, DMA #27, isn't too far behind in DMA rank, but Tribune isn't doing anything in the morning there.
Couldn't they have started something like an "AM New England" - run it on FOX 61 for Hartford, Springfield, and even WLVI 56 for Boston? They could have atleast developed a decent morning lineup for Fox 61, which may have put them in a better seat for the highly anticipated syndicated programs as well.
