Racing To Nowhere

I wanted to listen to the Coca-Cola 600 on radio Sunday evening. Since The Rebel 105.9 keeps running those t.v. spots claiming to be the NASCAR station, I flipped in on. Oops, no race, just country music. Truly a revolutionary radio programming idea, promoting something then not actually carrying it. However I did hear the d.j. update us all on the Indy 500. Bet you didn't know that Dario Franchitti did NOT win. According to The Rebel it was Dario FRESCHETTI! He said it twice! A frozen pizza won the Indy 500! No wonder this 50-thousand watts of wasted airspace can't pull decent ratings in Cincy or Dayton.

I must confess I didn't catch his name. The website doesn't list weekend people so someone else is going to have to figure out this burning question. Sunday from 3-7 would be "?"

That's just as laughable as what I hear on that station during the week!

But, forgive whoever it was - that person's probably been in radio about a year...

And, you could be "the Nascar Station" by just talking about it a lot. Not that it will actually get you listeners. From what I hear, Nascar on radio's a dog...people who want the races (and there are lots of them) will watch at home on TV, or go to a bar to watch.

Look, the station's strength is largely at its' hometurf...more power to them. Y'all that want to try and see them become a regional powerhouse, think about that. Here is still actual "local" radio, owned and run by small town people. (But sorry, I don't consider Middletown or Portsmouth a major market.) Maybe they're not the slickest operation in the world...but they've got a stick and a transmitter. It is what it is.

We need some aircheck audio of "Tara" on WPAY/Portsmouth. She's been described as sounding "like some ugly stoner pothead check you knew back in high school." I have heard her, and words fail to adequately describe how awful she sounds. And she's the PD!
