Racism On KOOL 1053 Morning Show?

What's the deal with the morning show now bringing back Robert Mitchell's pitiful and insulting impersonations of a shuffle-foot African American he calls Dameon? Oh, by the way, to further this racist humor, in the past Dameon's friend was Tyrone, and his wife was named Zinfandel (apparently inferring that "Dameon's" African American wife is a stereotypical black drunkard).

These racist insults labeled as "comedy" were bad enough on his show before the storm. Now it's worse and totally uncalled for, in my opinion. I thought this low type of insulting humor died with minstrel shows. But apparently Mr. Mitchell feels it's funny to mock black people, with the apparent approval of his superiors.

I’m glad I’m not the only person that listens to Kool at times that has heard racial overtones when Bob Mitchell telephones in his, “Dameon, my brother”, character. It’s nothing more than a couple of minutes of wasted time. At best, it’s a take off of Walter & Johnson’s “Mr. T” with one exception. Steve Johnson’s funny and topical. Mitchell’s take comes across as an Amos & Andy skit poking fun at the black listeners.

They sell “family fun” while attempting to do a black voice that does little than chastise any black listeners they have. Any time I hear it, I wonder, isn’t Dameon the biblical name for the devil? If you were going to have a black character, wouldn’t you do a spoof of someone who’s known? Not one that obviously sounds like Bob Mitchell trying his lame shot at a voice. If there is any humor meant, I don’t hear it or get it. I guess management does and approves of it.

After listening to the station over the weekend and hearing all about it’s “the new and improved Kool”, you get but one conclusion. It’s the same songs over and over again plus the weak, pathetic staff. The only thing different is the frequency. Spare us hype. The old saying implies here, “the more things change, the more things stay the same”. Is management blind to how racial “Dameon” sounds? The city has enough problems from the storm on the city, state, and federal level. We don’t need Mitchell to show us how ancient and ass-backwards his humor is. Spare us PERIOD!

Hmmmm....listen slowly on how to handle this problem

Keep one hand on the steering wheel, slowly take the other hand off the wheel. reach for the "tuning" knob and change the channel if your offended.

Listeners shouldn't have to censor this kind of racism. The station and corporation should take care of that.

DavidByrneFan is correct on his point about changing stations but you miss the point of the post. It’s racism at it’s best! Maybe you enjoy Bob Mitchell's idea of racial humor. I, for one, don't and for Entercom to allow this type shameless garbage to continue is beyond me. How about “Dameon Field” as a character. Would they allow Mitchell to stereotype Jews? I’m sure Entercom’s CEO would put a quick end to it.

Plain and simple, his attempt at humor is simply racist. I ran across a few black friends yesterday and asked them if the had heard of those names and thought I was crazy. But these are folks who don’t listen to Kool.

You would think they’d put a stop to it. Doesn’t Entercom have enough problems with stations in the northeast and offending African-Americans evidently isn’t one of their top priorities?

I’m happy my Pioneer head unit has 18 pre-sets but the pickings are slim. That $500 lifetime charge for Sirius Satellite radio is looking better every day and more people tend to be leaning in that direction. Maybe one day, they’ll get it.

You *really* don't get it, do you? How are things on your planet WhoCaresAsLongAsItDoesn'tAffectMe?

What a callous jerk you are. People like you are the reason radio sucks today.

Hypocrites

One day it's save us all from corporate radio.....the next day it's corporate radio should be saving us....why do some choose to speak out of both sides of their mouths?

Let me guess, the guy who called Condi Rice a "coon" should have been fired because:

a) I wanted his job

b) Im better on air than he is

c) it's the government's job to "protect" us

Please spare us your hatred. Again, don't like Mitchell or what he said? Change the channel, or better yet send out a demo and get a freakin gig

That is why Captain Mike brought back King Bob Walker and Sgt. T-Ben Boudreaux-to REBUILD NEW ORLEANS one OLDIE at a TIME.
Right now, WTIX-FM sounds more powerful than KOOL 105.3
In the ROCK RADIO department, Rock 106.3 in Thibodaux FRIGGIN' ROCKS!!!!
They give Bayou a run for the money and definately puts WRNO below the bottom of the garbage can.
What makes Bayou popular is W&J. now if KXOR would have Jay Hooks in the morning, Bayou and Rock 106.3 would run neck and neck.

For music that's not repetitive and STILL HAS LOCAL FLAVOR, I would suggest the following

Oldies-WTIX-FM "TIX FM"
Rock-KXOR-FM "ROCK 106.3"

Here we go again with Jay Hooks! The way axedriver talks about him, I feel totally left out. Maybe I should have suffered through W&J to get a real taste of Hooks. Maybe Hooks is the future of New Orleans radio???
