Radio 10 Gold - 1008 AM is closing down

The longest running commercial radio station of The Netherlands, Radio 10 Gold is going to shut down their AM transmitter. Since the infamous auction, the radio station was forced to leave FM and settle for an AM frequency. Although they are reaching 1.3 million listeners a week, advertisers are not buying air-time. Therefore, most of the jocks are fired and the AM transmitter will cease broadcast soon.

Radio 10 Gold will stay on local cable networks, satelite and internet, but it looks like the oldest commercial station of The Netherlands is dying.

For who's interested, Radio 10 Gold started late 80s and was the one of the first commercial radio stations in The Netherlands. Back then, commercial radio station weren't allowed to broadcast in The Netherlands, but because of a loophole in the laws, Radio 10 Gold was broadcasting from Amsterdam to Milano Italy and back again to the local cable networks. This way, it wasn't a Dutch station and thus allowed for broadcasting. Famous jocks on Radio 10 Gold, Tom Mulder, Peter Holland and Ferry Maat (who's now on Radio Veronica).

Wow, it's sad to see this...
