bait

<LOL> Yeah, uh, but ratings lie. And-- uh, gee, you don't know how to read them. And, duh, like, you don't know facts. And, um, your mama...

You guys slay me. I don't even think those two twits were PDs. Just two old, bitter, frustrated radio hacks who never made it and now they know better than all of us.

Too much time in the mines (or overnights on an AM).

Why is it all you do is bitch and complain especially when you don't live in either Pitts burgh or Jax. Why don't you worry abot radio in your own market. Just curious.

Re: PD Questions

wcrxz, or whatever...

How mean spirited. Last time I check, it's a free country to
bitch and moan or compliment (how do you spell that???) I think
it kind of cool that industry people love radio so much that
they take the time to look at different boards. Besides, Detroit
doesn't have it's own board (I blame Oldiescat for screwing that
up as often as I can, as a joke.)

OC worked in Jax for a while, so he's entitled. Give him a
break this one time and re-think your comment, please. Look at the
lievely debate and fun he has created on this board.

Now, you guys have really fallen off the job on what's up with
the Gator and I want to know why? There was so much excitment
and hope just a few months ago and now we get NOTHING. Help
us out...

Get us some real dirt on what's really going on at Gator central,
they can't be just sitting there doing nothing new, can they???

Best regards!

because

It's called "observing". Talk about the pot calling the kettle black- that's all half of you guys on this board do (or blindly rah-rah for Renda).

I'm not "worried" about any market. God forbid we have a spirited exchange of thoughts and ideas. If you'd feel better with everybody thinking exactly the same, why don't you ask R-I to form the "Lemmings" board. Comfy, non-offensive and boring as heck.

:)

I have nothing against OC personally but having worked at for all three companies in Jax throughout the years Monday quarterbacking aways find faults. Do I think Renda has made mistakes of course so has Cox and CC. My complaint is that if you are on the outside looking in you have no real idea about what is going on.

As for Gator the last I heard they have a biilboard up one of the best looking vans I've seen and have been sending listeners on trips to see Reba, Sara Evans, Brooks & dunn and they are having another free show at the landing on November 3rd.

The book comes out on Thursday so it will be interesting to see how everybody does. I wonder if WFYV will drop since LT were gone for most of the last trend.

Anyway I apoligize to Oldies it is just frustrating to see people who have no idea what is going on behind the doors at Cox, Renda or CC be so negative. If they have such great ideas then go out on alimb and write, phone, email those in charge with their suggestions, who knows maybe somebody will listen.

It's Fair Game

Knowing what is going on beyond the scenes is moot. Radio professionals are supposed to be just that- professional and they are paid to do a job. Well, as we look back at events during the year, how can we not support my argument that the bar in Jax is not raised and mediocrity is the norm. And yes, all the major players have screwed up. And there was not a need for that. KOOL was a disaster in it's debut. It seemed there was little/no testing to see if the auto programming worked. Remember all that dead area between the songs?

Then you have Eagle with the sweeper reminders to "make the switch." They are still too stupid at Cox to realize that people made the switch and coninue to switch from their own cluster seriously impacting the Point and to some degree, Rock 105.

The L&T departure from Rock 105 will have revenue inpact. If Cox's solution is to keep pumping out the music in the morning, then Rock 105 will find itself close to the bottom of the Top 10 for a long time. It's only a matter of time (next book) that Planet will move ahead of Rock 105.

And then we have Froggie come to Jax as a country station and within a short time it becomes Gator Country. Legal challenges take time and money and I wonder of the logic for all that.

Jax now has 3 country stations. Everyone keeps talking about how CC will keep Rooster going as a way to protect WQIK. Maybe I need to open a new subject - Radio 101- Part 2 as this seens a cop out to try something else new and inventive.

And so for those of us who are accused of a lot of Monday morning quarterbacking, it's important to remember that we often site lack of thought and prepardness with regard to our comments. When these guys continue to screw up, it's all fair game to critique.

Renda

And I have nothing personal against Renda. But you don't have to be a fly on the wall to see some of the big-picture, strategic mistakes made. They may do OK with the nuts & bolts (like the listener trips), but those thing don't make or break a radio station.

They sounded ill-prepared when they put KOOL on-the-air and waited way to long to get up-to-speed. I'm still not convinced that there's a big enough hole for a 3rd country station(their "one billboard" notwithstanding)- even if they beat WROO, so what? They're still a distant #2 in the format.

They just don't seem to operate with a major league attitude- I can also say the same about Cumulus and other operators. We're not being negative- but I do call 'em as I see 'em. Great products don't exist behind closed doors and in meeting rooms- they're out there and available to the public.

Not exactly so.... there are a lot of newstalk stations that know nothing about recycling listeners from one daypart to another. Mike Dorwart does a decent job with this. The station is tight during syndicated hours. The morning news block is not that great only because I feel it lacks a decent anchor. It was much better a couple of years ago with Paul Rassmussen who is now at WQIK. That was WOKV's loss.

Oldiescat:

Everybody knows there are no AM stations on the air at night
in Pittsburgh. Except, maybe...uh oh, no one told them did
they???

I still do not understand what he has to do with syndicated programing as jim rome said any monkey can program a news talk (Sports) talk station to me WDBO, WFLA in Tampa and Orlando are much better and even wndb in daytona. only in the morning and afternoon because of local host the rest sounds the same because its all syndicated programing. and as far as weather on wokv its taped or what ever as i was able to listen all day the other day and they should have have the weatherman make several tapes of the forcast because it sounded real bad to me.
