Radio 104.1 WMRQ

What are everyone's thoughts on Radio 104.1, since being acquired by Red Wolf several months ago? I've listened online occasionally and followed its playlists on yes.com, and feel that they're a bit "off." I find the imaging of the station, especially with the booming voice, to be more top-40 friendly. Also, the midday jock seems to be better suited to read liners on an AC station. Haven't heard the other jocks, but they seem to have more top-40 experience according to their bios than rock or alternative experience.

Musically, it is so-so. It reminds me of how Clear Channel was running the station, actually. Nothing is being broken early--it's taken over a week for new releases from Pearl Jam and Muse to make it on air. Also, what is up with playing the Fray so much? Leave that to TIC-FM. I know they're still "new" and they have to keep things a bit more mass appeal to attract listeners, but at the same time, they are "independently" owned now (they don't have to give 90% of their profits to Clear Channel execs). I say just effin' go for it... play new music that no one else is playing. Play new Spoon, Band of Skulls, Passion Pit, and Company of Thieves, no one else is! I've heard Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Foo Fighters, Sublime, and U2 enough, I grew up with that. Just go for it, Radio 104.1!

And get rid of that midday jock. I'm sure she'd have a job on 106.5 WBMW.

I think she's already voice tracking another station somewhere out-of-state. The music mix could be shaken up though.

I hate to say it, but this station was so much better under Clear Channel. They played more obscure songs from the mid-90's that were modern rock hits then as well as newer stuff.

The new owners have turned it into basically a classic rock station with some newer songs thrown in. 1980's Guns N Roses and The Police, early 1990's Metallica and Black Crowes are NOT modern rock! I don't want to hear those on this station! I hate to say it, but what was my favorite station has gone way downhill since Red Wolf took over. Also, the DJ's are terrible and there are too many ads now.

It is no worse no better now. It's very easy to get bored with a voicetracked station with a very limited playlist, so I rarely listen.

And a lot of the ads on 104.1 are for businesses in the coverage area of 107.7 and 106.5 down in New London County. I don't think a WMRQ listener from say Waterbury is gonna drive all the way to New London to buy a car.

Um, lots of people would go that far to buy a car.

Maybe Red Wolf is running 'MRQ on the cheap until the economy turns around and Corporate America starts advertising again. The question is, though, will it start advertising on RADIO again?

Maybe they'd go just as far to buy gas!

Why don't we support a locally owned and operated station....hey they have roots in New London, but what does that say...people and advertisers like their operation....would you rather have clear channel operate the station??? Red wolf is a die hard...just watch them ....they started on the bottom in New London and now they ruel the roost!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I thought for sure, by now, John Fuller would have posted his photo and autobiography on the WMRQ website. Maybe he's too busy coaching that fantastic imaging voice on how to sound obnoxious and phony. Could be. With regard to music, we hear Guns n Roses, The Police, heck, throw some Mariah Carey in there too ::) I have yet to catch a Chevelle song...There will never be another Radio 104, but a reasonable facsimile thereof is better than nothing !

BRING BACK JAKE AND BETH

It's starting to tire on me. The music mix is not what I hoped for. On Sunday I heard Guns and Roses and then "Photograph" from Nickelback. If I wanted to hear that crap, I'd listen to WHCN or WTIC. As for Jake and Beth? I doubt it. I guess I'll have to find anything I taped off the station back in the good ol' days. SIGH!
