Radio 104.1

I've been listening to Radio 104.1 lately and I think it sounds great! It's been a while since I listened to them, what do you guys think?

I thought the first version of Radio 104 in the 1990s was better than the current version. As for their music, they play way too much from the same 5 or 6 artists, with the Chili Peppers being a good example. As for sound quality, it definitely sounds different than in the past. BTW, does anybody know what happened to them on the weekend? They sounded like they were in mono for many hours and the sound was all muddy.

Most radio was better back in the 1990's though. I definitely agree about the sound quality being different. I don't think I listened over the weekend.

It's OK Marc...I'll be 40 on Thursday. Yeah, I was glued to the original Radio 104, with the peak of that being around 1996-97. I was on a modern rock kick at the time and should still have a song or two on tape from that era. I tried to listen to the Flashback Lunchbox whenever I could at noontime. I wasn't so keen on the Jake and Beth morning show, but enjoyed the rest of the day, closing with Pyke at Night. I remember Kevin the Afternoon Guy doing PM drive before he went over to WCCC-FM. I also remember them carrying LoveLines at 10 pm, before WTIC-FM started carrying it.

Has anyone ever heard WMRQ 104.1 in HD? It sounds the worst of any HD station in the market. When my receiver switches into HD mode, the sound quality goes awful. The highs are so tinny and bass diminishes making the HD broadcast pratically unlistenable. There is also a several seconds delay between analog and HD.

As I remember bach in the 70's when the station was W104 WIOF with the automated Great American Country format was on the air .The station sounded great.

January PPM's are out for Hartford today... WMRQ-FM leapt almost a full share!! December-Holiday-January, WMRQ-FM HD1 went 3.3-3.2-4.3. That's up from 2.6 in the Spring 2010 book. They've managed to add 1.7 shares in a year... not bad at all. They're definitely doing something right. (Not being owned by Clear Channel is a good first step.)
