Radio 92.3 last song before the flip?

What do you guess will be the last song played on Radio 92.3 before they flip to sports? I'm going to guess it will be 'In The End' By: Linkin Park. What's your guess?

Without asking anyone, I'm guessing that it will be whatever Pat the Producer plays to conclude "Inner Sanctum" at midnight the night before (then they go into stunt mode for the next six hours).

That, or they conclude with a Foo Fighters, Linkin Park or Red Hot Chilli Peppers song of choice at 5:55AM.

Running "It's the End of the World" has already been done... and the format isn't ending, but shifting to an internet-only stream and supposedly on WKRK HD-2. (I say 'supposedly' because most of CBS' FM sports stations relay each other on their HD subchannels; I was expecting WKRK to continue that trend.)

If they're putting Radio 92.3 on an HD-2, they should put it on NCX, Q, or WDOK. 92.3's signal is iffy enough as it is, it's HD signal is worse.

I assume Radio 92.3 will go to HD2, but don't have any confirmation of it.

Frankly, they should turn it over to the Inner Sanctum folks...for that matter, they should give them the run of the main station next week.

The ONLY hinting I heard or saw came from this Facebook posting last week on "radio 92.3's" wall by someone who claimed to call Andy Roth - and supposedly got the information from him.

"radio 92.3" also had this (unscientific) Facebook poll late last week.

As per the final week, "Nard" (PD Dom Nardella) has been at 92.3 since its' long-gone days as "The Beat" (2000). Might as well have him behind the mic once again throughout next week... and then team up with Pat to close down the format that Sunday night.

DToTheJ, ironically enough, "radio 92.3" started off as an HD-2 subchannel on 92.3's previous "K-Rock" branding! Both formats swapped HD positions, and "K-Rock" became "K-2," in December 2008.

So, Im unclear. Will the flip to sports happen at midnight or at 6:00 AM. If it happens at 6, wouldnt that 6 hr span between midnight and 6 00 be, potentially, no holds barred radio, with the opportunity to do some really fun stuff and just do whatever the hell they want?

To me, that would be something to listen to. Obviously, they wont want to sabatage any future career endeavors, but that doesnt mean they cant break format for the final 6 hrs and just go nuts and have a blast doing it.

Is something like that possible?

I don't know, and I don't think it's been made clear just yet. Chances are it could be anything from crowd noises on a loop, to a construction sound, to repeating the same song over and over between midnight and 6AM.

Ideally, I'd like to see "Inner Sanctum" close out the format at midnight, to at least give the format some respect as it heads for HD-2 oblivion.

All that's known is that "The Fan" will officially sign on with the start of "Kiley and Booms" at 6:00AM sharp on August 29.

If you're going to stunt, why do it at midnight on Sunday night, in the middle of the night for six hours?

I'd bet on the automated alt-rock playlist until 5:59 AM Monday the 29th.

The stuff we're talking about here could be a way to call attention to "Radio 92.3" on HD2/Internet, and is in line with CBS giving WBCN in Boston a similar on-air sendoff before IT went to HD2/online.

(WBCN is indeed still "alive" on HD2, with the old "deep tracks" version of WBCN on another station's HD3, I believe.)

"Radio 92.3" is by no means a WBCN, even if you throw in the entire alt-rock era ("Xtreme", "K-Rock", etc.) but there's no harm in giving it a sendoff.

I still hope Nard and Verlane are landing within the CBS cluster, perhaps attached to WNCX, and I haven't heard that they are getting dumped.

Verlane IS sticking around as The Fan's production director. That's pretty much confirmed.

I'm not exactly sure what position Nard will have, but it also sounds as if he's sticking around in some capacity with The Fan/WNCX/"radio 92.3".

I do kinda wish that CBS had an FM translator to put the "radio 92.3" format on...

Ah, full-circle, love it! (Meanwhile, I think 92.3 in New York, whose main signal, the former "K-Rock" and now "Now," still runs "K-Rock 2" on its HD2 channel - despite the fact that there has been no "K-Rock 1" for months now... ::) )

Don't care. Its not like 92.3 ( an automated alternative oldies station ) did anything to generate any kind of listener passion about signing off. I mean, will there be listeners lining up in protest?

The end of the world by REM -LOL

Kind of a tip of the hat to 107.9 "The End", eh?

If the format was ending, yes. But it's headed to HD-2 Hell and online-only.

Besides, 92.3's 2001-2011 rock era - which their constant format tweaks, on-air talent turnover, branding changes and call letter instability - cannot compare in the least to the "107.9 The End" of 1992-1999.

Anybody else notice that "radio 92.3" has started to open up the playlist floodgates in their last week on terrestrial radio?

Right now they're playing Shiny Happy People by: REM. Yesterday I heard them playing White Wedding by: Billy Idol

The last song played on 92.3 before Inner Sanctum started was R.E.M. - It's The End Of The World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine). So I am guessing that 92.3 will not be going back to music for the final 6 hours.
