Radio 94-7 debuts today

Pop alternative? Imagine KDND, but with Fall Out Boy 70 times a week instead of Lady Gaga.

And still, no one has the balls to take a bite out of KRXQ. So sad...

Why would Entercom take on themselves?

It sounds like, by your description, a format for PPM. Repetition for a cume friendly audience measuring system. That's why KDND does so well.

I just hear this lame ID on line:

This is KSSJ Fair Oaks and KSSJ-HD2 Sacramento.

Why don't they simply say.,, KSSJ and KSSJ HD1 Fair Oaks Sacramento?

What's on HD1?

Why doesn't the FCC standardize the legal IDs for HD channels. In LA they're consistent. In Sacramento, they're largely ignored.

What a week introduction to Radio 94-7.

I'm guessing there are really no official rules for Radio HD station ID's

This makes no sense. Don't KBZC and KRXQ already cover this music? the only conclusion I've drawn is that they are trying to finally bury KZZO (like that would be hard to do).

PPM loves classic hits, and Entercom is starting to embrace the format. Wonder why they didn't do that to kill off 92.1 and 93.1? Someone should (memo to CBS. Re: 100.5) Me thinks Entercom is trying to be too smart for the room.

It's KWOD 2.0 all over again.

It's my feeling that this format has been under the microscope recently. So, it's not a huge surprise they would flip. With that said, I thought KSSJ had a good presentation, was well-programmed and had fairly solid billing.

So, there was no money playing alternative rock 9 months ago, but now, the team that brought you KWOD 2.0 has discovered something new? Impressive!

This is about the same situation that NY's WQCD 101.9 went through.

I feel bad that Sacramento lost a great Smooth Jazz station.

Very sad to hear Sacramento losing KSSJ - I enjoyed listening to the commercial-free music weekdays 9 to Noon. Great presentation, and I liked the Coldplay mixed in with Boney James (I love both Rock and Jazz). I guess it's Sirius Watercolors from here on out. JG

I knew that when PPM debut in Sacramento, that the Smooth Jazz format for 94.7 would be doomed. Where I live, I can still listen to Smooth Jazz via KRVR-105.5, until the day that PPM debuts in the Modesto Market.

The PPM is expensive and probably won't go beyond the Top 50 markets anytime soon. One thing KRVR has is low overhead and a local owner that is into the format. It doesn't really put a strong enough signal in either Stockton or Modesto to penetrate buildings well. The ratings reflect that.

What time was the format change? What was the last Smooth Jazz song played and the first Alternative song played? So this is essentially 80's & 90's Alternative Rock?

That is a good thing. That is why KSTN-1420 continued past its prime. Because of its owner's dedication to that station. KRVR will probably go on with its Smooth Jazz format, as long as its owner doesn't pass way.

Actually I found the answer myself on their website. Last Smooth Jazz song was played was "Deep Into It" by Larry Carlton at 11:58 am and First Alternative song was "Today" by The Smashing Pumpkins at 12:NOON.

Entercom has filed for the call sign KFMS on March 3rd for (presumably) this station.
Not surprised that they didn't want to revive the KWOD calls for 94.7.
