Radio Aleluya

I heard that Radio Aleluya is now also broadcasting on 95.1 fm in Anglenton, Tx. So now it has 88.1 FM in Pasadena, 88.1 In Galveston
93.3 in Freeport, and the new one 95.1 FM in Anglenton, So this brings me to a couple of Questions??? Are they still going to broadcast there programing on 1460 am??
And Why are they buying or renting alot of stations??? Why dont they just stick to a powerful one so people could listen to it all over houston and stop searching for the signal on different Frequencies? Do they ever plan to buy a station in Downtown houston so more people could listen to it??

1460 AM is moving/has moved to Sugarland/Missouri City, and will not carry the ACB programming once it signs on from its new site. As to why they don't buy more, it comes down to money and lack of facilities that are for sale at prices that ACB would want to pay. A single frequency FM would, of course, be advantageous, but there's no room in today's spectrum for it. If something could have been shoehorned in, it would have been done so by now. And ACB does have a number of applications pending for FM translator frequencies in downtown Houston. When (and if) any of those ever see the light of day is anyone's guess.

I hope they don't get approved. Next thing you'll know, we'll be like austin with several translators around town.
There's a lot of Applications that have been submitted by them and are still pending (or might be dead already). These Stations include 92.5, 94.1, 95.3, 96.1, 96.9, 99.5, 101.5, 101.7, 102.5, 103.3, 104.5, 105.3, and 106.1. All of these scattered around town.

Juan let me tell you that I strongly disagree with you about you hope they dont get the permit. I think we need a Spanish Christian station on FM. Why not? There is 88.3 fm, Christian, 89.3 Christian, 90.5, 92.1, 105.7 they are all Christian, but none of them is in spanish.

I'm a close personal freind of the family who own these stations and yes 1460 will be a english station their gona lma it for 10 years! they have tried many times to buy out the 88.1 in katy that paulino bernal owns but he won't sell! they have also put in a few bids for fms that cover but not many are easy to aquire but their great ppl and do everything by the book and they have great fcc atorneys so power to them!!

Drove by the KBRZ site in Oyster Creek (Freeport) today and had the urge to see if they were still up and heard only dead air. I guess the move is in progress.

OH shure, there's nothing wrong with having a spanish christian station, but I don't like this type of christian music, both Paulino Bernal and Alleluya are regional Mexican based, not CHR. But that's not what my problem is.
What I disagree with is people filling the dial with translators. These little things are really buggy and to me seem really useless when trying to cover an area like Houston. Never met the folks over at Alleluya and I give them props for holding a station local. But translators are not the answer. Houston is lucky to only have one translator running at 91.5. I havent checked for 99.7 over in Sugarland. Does anyone know if it is up and running?

It's kind of interesting what happened with that one. When KSBJ's antenna was damaged by lightning last year the K259AB translator was taken off the air and they filed an STA for it to remain silent while repairs were being made at the main station. Then when it came to time to renew licenses, the translator was inadvertently not included in the application and the FCC canceled the license and deleted the call letters. Last I heard they were still sorting things out so it could return to the air.

Here'e the link to the new website for KBRZ if anyone is interested. http://kbrzradio.com/index.html

Sounds like the upgrade for KBRZ is further along than we all expected, if they are talking about a relaunch this month.

Since the new facility is a one tower ND, comparatively simple construction which might have gone quickly. Is there anyone in the vicinity of the supposed new transmiter site near the SW Fwy and Grand Parkway that can check for the new tower?

I hope we do not get another spanish station we have too many as it is. There should be a rule that says only 3 of the same type of stations on the dial in any city. We have 8 to 10 spanish stationa already hope the FCC does not award them any more translators if they do Houston radio will be dead as we know it.

Anyone heard what they're going to do with the old site and property? It'd be nice to have another home town station down here, albeit old and decrepid.

Looking at the coverage map, Freeport gets cut out. They've lost their only station. The name K-Breeze was originally coined by legendary KILT disc jockey, Chuck Dunaway. Chuck was there early in his career, before working at the giants like KILT, KLIF-Dallas, WIXY-Cleveland http://www.wixy1260.com and many others moving into station management and ownership. Chuck is now retired.

And up until fairly recently K-BRZ was a pretty good little country radio station, with a decent morning show, home-town news and lots of remotes. Too bad for Brazosport.

Hi Chuck & jd,

I vaguely remember talk of Chuck Dunaway working down here when I was a kid. We had a few big names (well maybe not that big) at the old KBRZ over the years. Danny Boze (KIKK) started off as "Danny Dee" at the station. Richard Dobbyn worked there in the 70's for a while as well, and there are a few that I can't remember off the top of my head. I hung around the station a lot in the early 70's because a friend worked there and a youth group I was in was always invovled in the Jerry Lewis Telethon that KBRZ sponsored. Their studios in Freeport were pretty nice, but by the end, they had moved everything to the transmitter site at Oyster Creek, which wasn't much to look at. I talked to the old PD a while back and told him that I wish he would have let me know about the sale before it was sold to Aleluya. I'm not rich by far, but I would have found some investors to help me buy it so we could preserve our only local station. It was never clear if Jim Payne sold the station because of financial difficuties or he was just ready to get out of the business, but one day it was K-Breeze then the next, Aleluya, then the next day our local paper reported it (they're really fast).

And... yes jd, they had pretty decent morning show and the "Lite & Country" mix made it a great station to listen to at work. Another plus that they had, was playing original music from local talent. We really do miss it down here.

3 of the same stations????? there are only two stations that have similar format and that's KTJM/KJOJ and KQBU. Spanish IS NOT A FORMAT. I'm sorry, but are you dumb or just acting dumb? We have been over this lots and lots of times. SPANISH IS NOT A FORMAT. Besides, in case you haven't heard, Hispanics are NOW the majority in Harris county. Seems to me that the Hispanic population is actually under served when it comes to radio.

Yes Juan is right hispanics are under served with radio, we need more stations there are too many station in english and I think pretty soon some stations will start having more spanish shows. Like in Dallas, there are like 7 FM stations in spanish and here in houston we have only 5

And I still dont see what any of this has to do with Radio Aleluya. And I hope they manage to buy Paulino Bernals station in katy

The tower's up (as of this past Sunday) and they have a 1kw transmitter, audio processor, and are trying to get things finished up with the grounding system. They've ordered a 5kw transmitter, but it hasn't arrived as yet. I understand they've been on and off the air testing.

I heard them on the air Monday, and initially thought it might be from the old site. If they're testing the new site with reduced power, it might be hard to tell the difference, depending on your location.

I guess the 1kw unit will become the backup xmtr (or the night xmtr running at 125 watts.)
