I don't live in Southern California, and I am not planning on any trips anytime soon, so I cannot investigate this on my own.

In looking at Google Maps for one address I have run across a free standing antenna, panted in the normal antenna colors, in a parking lot bounded by Center Street, Banning Street and Temple Street.

The building next to it is Los Angeles Personnel Department. Could it be a City of Los Angeles antenna?

Any ideas? Thanks in advance.
 
The tower has numerous fiberglass collinear verticals for LMR (land mobile radio) and a UHF dish.
I would expect this is a central dispatch station for various city services, both vehicle and hand-held.
 
Thanks for the tip on antenna search. Is that site frustrating for you? I know where KFI's antenna is in Buena Park, so I checked google maps for a street and street number and the site came up with hundreds of sites, but it didn't identify KFI that I could see.

I'll have to play with it more to try and understand it.

The antenna is literally tucked back in the middle of a bunch of warehouses, there isn't a street view to see it and a look at it from the satellite view doesn't yield much but a patch of dirt in the middle of an asphalt lot (though if you strain real hard you can see sunlight reflected off of the guy wires).

There are ways to narrow he search but yes it does find a lot because it finds every cell phone tower and even ham radios. But it is more accurate at times that Radio Locator which only does broadcast. It shows a local translator in a location that I pass every day and there is no kind of antenna there, not even a CB or other two way. Takes a little practice to finesse it.
 
That is a City of LA structure. If you go to Google Maps, and then Street View you can get a good look at it. I know it has some microwave links on it and a couple antennas. The new City of LA Emergency Operations Center was built down the street (with Fire Station #4), so I would guess the antenna is built for an 8.5 magnitude earthquake? It does look like it can handle a great number of more VHF, UHF and 700/800 Mhz antennas in the future.
