RADIO BDC - HOW ARE THEY DOIN'?

So aside from a few TV spots here and there, I have hardly heard a peep out of Radio BDC since they signed on (I guess mainly because I'm not one to fire up my laptop when I want to listen to "the radio" ;) ).

Anyone know how things are going over there?

I "tune in" every day from work and I listen to the celebrity takeovers on the weekend. They sound very professional. They are not just an ipod on shuffle like most online streams. They have lots of live interviews and concerts and even went to Coachella and hosted live performances from there. I would have to say that I haven't heard much advertising lately. I hope this means that boston.com is seeing enough traffic to justify the expense of running it. I would love to see "ratings" but I don't know if they subscribe to any services. I am out of market but if I was anywhere near Boston I would go to all of their live in the lab shows. All in all I would say they sound very professional and just the right mix of personality and music.

I listen to RadioBDC several times a week. They're pretty much a continuation of what the Paul Driscoll version of 101.7 WFNX was. There is definitely a lot of interaction, live performances, and independent spirit (despite being run by the Globe).

Lately, the thought has crossed my mind about RadioBDC perhaps trying to get on an existing Boston area HD2 or HD3 so that they can sign on to a translator, perhaps attaching a transmitter to the short tower atop their building. Just a thought.

They could approach one of the college stations to purchase IBOC. or XRV or PLM which does not have IBOC yet.

Would they partner with Clear channel and have 101.7 run it (or would Evolution do better?)
Mindich "got out of the business" (as Jerry Williams used to say) of radio and, for that matter,
publishing in Boston as times got hard, but would CC and the Globe do OK with running RadioBDC
on 101.7?

Why?! WFNX was losing money at the end. Why go back to that? What does CC have to gain from it? Right now they're getting low cost promotion for one of their iHeart brands.

FNX is over. Done. Ship has sailed, it's been gone a year and forgotten. It was a shell of it's former self in the last year anyway. Henry Santoro doing mornings all by himself was the sign to me that it had been given up on as a format and station.

why do you people think Evolution isnt going to last on 101.1????

btw does 101.7 have HD subchannels?

the station sounds good--a more tight ship then fnx was in it's online period, which for better or worse means a more limited playlist, and less focuss on breaking new music. I personally am not a huge fan of the morning program, but that could also be because I'm not in market.

I'm surprised they haven't used the "platform" to expand to another stream or two, at least on special occasions.

Ex. election night. Boston.com had video updates regularly with their political team, but why not fire up an audio stream for those on the go with smartphones? You have the facilities, and you have the newsgathering team.
