So the new rage in radio is getting hosts, jocks, and producers to blog on radio websites... What do you think?

Geoff Charles (94HJY) - http://www.whjy.com/pages/onair_charles.html

Ron St. Pierre (WPRO) - http://www.630wpro.com/blog.asp?id=18886

Dan Yorke (WPRO) - http://www.630wpro.com/blog.asp?id=18037

Matt Allen (WPRO) - http://www.630wpro.com/blog.asp?id=18071

Bekah (Buddy's Screener - WPRO) - http://www.630wpro.com/blog.asp?id=18785

Helen Glover (WHJJ - Video Blog) - http://www.920whjj.com/pages/helen.html

Tim (Helen's Producer - WHJJ) - http://www.920whjj.com/pages/tim.html

First off I think St. Pierre needs to stop calling it RONZO'S BLOG. It makes him sound like he's blogging from the kitchen of a Pizza hut.

Secondly.... I couldn't find it any less appealing to read the blogs of people that I couldn't care less about. I can't keep up with my friends blogs who I do care care about! Do I really need to read the blog of Bekah the call screener? Who will be blogging next? Ted the Pro-Fm Janitor?

No offense to the fine people above. But....... To many people. To many Blogs. I'm all blogged out.

First off, Ron's nickname is Ronzo, don't see anything wrong with it. Secondly I imagine that they are right now sitting at a keyboard thinking how they can pi$$ off Skynet today with their blog-it is their main purpose for life. As with the X-mas music, you don't like it, don't bother with it and be done with it.

So let me get this straight: John, you can post your opinions on message boards but known personalities shouldn't blog? Everybody from the average kindergarten student to my neighbor's cat blogs. I won't even touch your naming a janitor after Ted.

And Ron responds:

"INTERNET GAB SITES

I check these tragic sites on a daily basis for the simple reason they are not regulated and they can post some incredibly hurtful things about us and the innocent victims, our families....so, I check the entries of these circus dogs daily. One posting dealt with blogging and somebody suggested I should stop calling my blog "ronzo's blog" because it sounded as though I was taking pizza orders. I'll give a little credit where it's due as it's not a bad line. The person who started calling me "Ronzo" was the late Bob Oliver years ago when I worked with him at WHJJ radio in the early 80's. He was a great guy and one of the hardest workers I've ever been around, a real pro."

Well at least Ron gave me credit. That's more than wknd92 does. In any event.... I don't fault people for having a blog. My only concern is that it can be overkill sometimes. Let the on air talents have their blogs. That's reasonable. But where down the chain of command does it stop? Call screeners get a blog? How about the mailman. When will he gets his own station blog? Let's use some good judgement before we load up the station website with blogs.

A friend of mine sent me Geoff Charles's blog last week. I didn't even know that Charles had a blog! But that's fine. It was a good read and I enjoyed it. However I know of the guy and he has his own show. So it makes sense. But if I had a station, I most likely would not stick blogs on the site unless they came from primary on air talent. If you have a show then you'll get a Blog. If you don't have a show, you can go home and blog. The End.

More power to 'em.

But why would I bother to read them? Radio hosts are vocalizing their opinions every day. Why do I need to go read more of it on a blog site? ::)

It seems to me that Bekah's blog is there because Buddy doesn't want to, but who knows.

John...here is something else to think about. These blogs might be a corporate requirement for some, so they HAVE to do it. Try thinking outside of the box once in a while...and why would i give you credit for anything? As Runrigger put it, you rank on them, yet sit there and throw knives 24/7 for no reason.

And for Ronzo, keep an eye on the star!

Oh I've got reason. If I don't like something than I will come here to gripe about it like the A-hole I am. Actually I am a very nice guy in person. But this board is where I come to release tension and I realize that I don't come off as being very nice. trust me. I actually am. But just not here. lol

BTW.... thanks to Ronzo for explaining where the nickname came from. I had no clue. Now I will just call you Ronzo because I find it fun.

Thanks. :)

DING DING DING We have a winner!

A Corporation that REQUIRES you to BLOG? That almost sounds amusing. No Wait... It definitely sounds amusing! Do these corporations also require that EVERYBODY employed there Blog? How do they decide WHO must blog? I can't even begin to imagine a Corporation that would REQUIRE the Call Screener to Blog! I'm sorry. I'm just not ready to accept this answer of a BLOG REQUIREMENT without investigating further. It sounds rather ridiculous if you ask me.

They require some DJs to blog because it's one more place to put advertising. The sales person then in turns markets the blog out. Theyadd it to their sales package of the station, as bonus value. "you get the station, plus the web site and oh so and so's blog, which attracts a ton of readers." It all goes back to that making money thing

They never said it had to be good, just that they have to blog.

Who would have even imagined 10 years ago that someday a Radio station would REQUIRE you to BLOG? It borders on Frightening!

Station's need to keep their talent relevant. The problem is none of them understand how to make interesting/effective online content, so its pretty much just pissing in the wind.
