Radio Cantico Nuevo Extends its Reach in Metro Area

The Spanish religious broadcaster had already been on WJDM 1530 AM in Elizabeth NJ. Then they added early this year WNYH 740 AM in Huntington LI, which has a pretty decent reach into Nassau County, coastal CT, and southern Westchester County.
About a week ago they replaced the Polish language programming on WRKL 910 AM in Pomona NY, adding coverage to Rockland County and the surrounding area. I wonder if they intend to lease time on other stations, or even buy one.

Did they, really? Did they buy it, or are they just leasing time on it? They don't just reach the coast of CT, they get quite far inland, as well! They have a MONSTER signal here during the day!

I remember when that station signed back on a couple of years ago, with 3 CD's in a changer, playing very old hymns all day, every day. The audio quality was SUPERB!

Willie, they're leasing WNYH and WRKL. They outright own WNYG on Long Island, which is currently being rebuilt in a new COL of Medford. (Formerly licensed to Babylon).

According to radio-locator.com, WNYG is off the air. (So no coverage maps, grumble, grumble!) I find this interesting, considering they are building a new transmitter facility. You'd think they'd keep the old one running as long as they can, only shutting it down briefly for testing of the new site, as needed, then just flip the switch when it's ready. At least by going directional, they will get to run almost 200W at night, instead of a paltry 38! ;)

They're also moving it pretty far east... from due south of Norwalk, CT, to due south of Milford. >20 miles.

Arthur Liu used to own WNYG and he's the one who applied for the CP. He applied to boost the wattage on his 1430 in Newark (the former flagship of Radio Cantico Nuevo), so 1440 had to be moved. Then he sold 1440 outright to Radio Cantico Nuevo. 1430 is now The Voice of Russia and Radio Cantico Nuevo moved to another Arthur Liu Station WJDM 1530 in Elizabeth. Radio Cantico Nuevo then added WNYH 740 in Huntington. Then they lost WXCT AM 990 in suburban Hartford, Connecticut. (They're now running another Spanish Christan network). 990 is owned by Davidson Media Group.

I hope that once WNYG returns to the air, Radio Cantico will decide to discontinue their broadcast on WNYH. With their strong signal, WNYH 740 AM should be useful for a more mainstream format. I think it would be a great facility for simulcasting WJVC 96.1 MyCountry, in Center Moriches. It would make their signal available to a much wider swath of Nassau County, Westchester County, and CT.

Far better would be to put a format there, which is NOT available on ANY terrestrial broadcaster in this area... something like Smooth Jazz comes to mind. There is already a powerhouse Country station on 92.5
