RADIO CIRCA 1990 - EXACTLY 20 YEARS AGO

For a brief time, there was a local publication called The Greater Seattle Radio Guide. It was available at Peaches and many other fine outlets. I had a copy & paste error in the KOMO listing. The last line should have been deleted -- Jon Ballard was at KISW, not KOMO.

Cool. Post KZOK when you can.

It's hard to believe 1990 was 20 years ago. I only had 3 presets that I used back then: KISW, KXRX and KZOK.

Mark Allen-Pitch man where the Honda are Bellvue?, International Jewelry, others
Rick Hansen-Radio Parties, Hansen Entertainment
Tom Hutler-Komo, Part time 101.5, Mariners staduim voice, pitchman
Paul Thompson-Weekends 101.5
Joe Micheals-voice of King 5

Might be more, all I could find to add

ummm....lets speculate what seattle Mcradio will bring us 20 years from now: 1) to save money, more homogenization of national talents, and less local voices, within the corporate mass of seattle music/talk outlets? 2) perfect sexy, and loveable computer voices, that voice track for free? 3) a government bailout, cause they took on too much expansion debt, lost too much ad revenue, and got too big to fail? 4) lack of interest, and antiquated view of radio, by a new, and soon to be born generation? 5) an aged group of 60 to 70 year old hippies, and radio veterans, will purchase seattle radio ownerships by short sales, and play 50+ year old music from the 60's, 70's and 80's, the old fashioned way, by vinyl, CD, and cart.

Some of the part timer and full time around that time:

Glen Beck?
Paul Walker
Wendy Christopher
Eric Dawes
Danny Holiday
David Yates
Kevin Calabro
Joe Cooper
Some of you must remember more!

Oh yea,

Vic Orlando voice guy now at KJR
Ron Erak now a Voice guy
Bob Case was floating around then
Gary Bryan close by?
Paul Carlson?

Former I-guy Bobby Rich has been the morning man at KMXZ Tucson, AZ for quite a few years.

Bob Case I believe is a muckety-muck for Clear Channel and Gary Bryan is kicking ass in AM Drive at K-EARTH in L.A.

If you are E.D..I remember hearing you on Kvi, 101.5 and KJR-fm.
Where in Idaho is Paul Walker? Do you remember Ken Carson? where is he?
How about Bruce Cannon?, Captain Kirk, at Ktac in Tacoma and KVI,
Tim Edwards, at Ktac, Kvi, Kmps, and Kjr am, ? Green at Kvi, Bob Cochran, Jeff Randall, Morton of KVI, Chet Rodgers? How good was he with Lock Jock? I would bet money, the best talent ever in Seattle: Gary Lockwood, then Charlie Brown!!!
After that Scott Savlidori or whaterver his name is.

Then I owe you at least three apologies.

Carson does Sounders & Seahawks crowd ramp-up events and many corporate events -- does the apperances for his full time business. Sugar/Bruce was main presence on KOZI/Chelan and then I heard he is no longer doing that. Kirk Russell I lost track of even while @ KVI ... Morton still in Seattle (he attends the senior get-togethers on regulr basis) .. Chet has an agency that has been operating for years. So does Steve West.

savlidori or whaterver? perhaps someone got into the liquor cabinet last night, i dunno? mr. salvatori, has run some street stock race cars in the 80's, 90's, and 00's, and done some college FM bluegrass/country programming, and mom and pop commercial AM country in the 90's, but in no way does he measure up, or come close to the legends of richard petty and dale earnhardt or gary lockwood, and charlie brown. but, mr salvatori got a good chuckle, and looks forward to the day when he finally gives up his life behind the wheel and cashes in his hand$, and buys a mom and pop AM/FM outlet somewhere deep in the heart of the USA, where he can program "gut bucket"country, and/or right wing wacko extremest radio to the rural masses. meanwhile back at the radio circa 1990 ranch...................KIRO 710, was still in its good ol' days. less contrived entertainewsment back then. no annoying fast moving news clock yet. jim french was still there on KIRO midday, and the late great wayne cody held the nightly spot on KIRO sportsline, which i spent many of night tuned into. what do you all think of KIRO radio circa......these days? check out the ron and don thread. mr. salvatori doesnt like to degrade local radio personalities. at least not for the official record here.............

The part of your post that caught my attention was Peaches. Remember record stores? Remember when people went to record stores? Full line record stores, where you could find everything that was in print, not just the Top 20? You can't disrupt that without having repercussions in other areas. And one of those other areas is radio.

I have always wondered what happened to those concrete hand/footprints (like Grauman's Chinese theatre) that were outside Peaches whenever a big-time recording artist showed up in town they'd do that little ceremony.

Paul Walker makes comments on the Portland Radio Guide quite a bit.
