Radio Classics on WCAU

Does anyone remember this show? It aired back in the late 80's on 1210. I remember the host used to refer to the "Atwater kent" and he played about 3 or 4 old time radio shows from the 40's and 50's at night after 8 PM I believe.

Does anyone know if this was a local or national show and who the host was? And also, is anyone still airing these old shows (besides SiriusXM) because I haven't heard any on the air in many years.

It was a local show. But a similar syndicated show, "When Radio Was" is still in production. You can listen online or find stations which carry the show on their website (whenradiowas.com).

WAMU, the public radio station in Washington, has a Sunday night old time radio broadcast. It is available online and depending on where you are located, you might be able to pick it up OTA. The host is Ed Walker, who was one of "The Joy Boys," an early morning drive comedy team, along with Willard Scott.

Atwater Kent was a manufacturer of high-end radio receivers located in Philadelphia.

Was the host Eric, the station's excellent Production Director?

The host was Gary Hodgeson. "Radio Classics" was a local show, and in the spring and summer it was often pre-empted for the Phillies.

Hodgeson was let go along with Richard Hayes and Mary Mason during the station's last big lineup change. This would have occurred just a few months before the whole station was dumped.

If I correctly recall, Bruce Williams along with some other shows from TalkNet filled the spot in the evening schedule when the Phillies weren't playing.
