RADIO.COM Launches on Xfinity X1 and Xfinity Flex

https://news.****************/articles/n38664/RADIOCOM-Launches-on-Xfinity-X1-and-Xfinity-Flex

Entercom has a deal for Comcast subscribers to air content content over the Xfinity X1 and Xfinity Flex devices.

Music Choice will endure. There is a lot to be said for no commercials and no announcers (as opposed to radio.com). Plus, for those of us who do not use X1 on Comcast, being able to find the Music Choice stations as a regular TV channel is useful.

There has been some online chatter about Comcast dropping Music Choice on non-X1 equipment (legacy QAM devices) in order to free up bandwidth for the X1 IPTV and broadband services. I have Comcast but not X1; I noticed about six weeks ago that they had demapped 25 international channels plus all the In-Demand sports (MLB/NBA/NHL/MLS) channels from my RNG200 program guide, so over 50 channels gone from QAM. I also notice that DVR recordings are now taking up less space, so they have increased video compression.

Supposedly Music Choice will only be available as a streaming app on X1, along with iHeart, Radio.com and other audio services.

I understand about 75% of Comcast customers are using X1, so the legacy QAM will continue to be phased out as the number of its subscribers continues to shrink as a percentage of the subscriber base. Apparently premium services (HBO/Showtime etc) are next on the QAM chopping block.

I'm also a fan of Music Choice, I was only speculating that Comcast might use the availability of the other services to either stop carrying it or move it to a higher pay tier. I hope it stays put.

I talked to a Comcast rep a few years ago and they said that they were phasing out all older boxes and moving everyone to X1.

As for Music Choice, I can't see that ever going away.
