Radio commercial load, vs. TV

6 to 9 min. breaks in radio kill the enjoyment and commute in the car, unless your trigger finger hits another button. MTV Networks fires their shot at overload now, on several of their cable outlets. On Spike, "Horsepower TV" and "Trucks" , 30 min shows, get extended to 35 minutes*. TVLand and the original 30 min. shows go to 35 mins, except "3's Company"*, which went to 40 minutes.1 hour "Bonanza" went to 70 mins*. This is AFTER every millisecond of unneeded show has been edited out. (*sporadically).
Last weekend, Spike aired "Star Wars IV" the 2 hour classic from '77 . And packed it with commercials and promotion that extended it to 3 hrs and 25 minutes. That works out to 10 minutes of Movie, to 7 minutes of "breaks".
So MTV Networks sees basically no limit to commercial load. Is radio gonna push it further, also?

I sure hope so. You can never get enough spots on the radio. The heck with ELO, I want to hear more spots about buying gold.

I was driving to OC this week and heard an 11 minute commercial break on KYXY's J & J retirement show. The minimum break is now 5 minutes on this morning debacle, and they play bits two to three times per show. I swear, I would listen if they were truthful and called the show, "Commercials & Music on KYXY's morning drive, sponsored by Jeff & Jer."

This is why I love XM radio and the DVR in my cable box. And when I do listen to radio, the lack of commercials on PBS makes it as first choice.

While I disagree with much of what they air, I do think the commercial load (per hour) on KECR would be a step in the right direction. ;)

That was funny. KECR. I've listened to that station periodically since 1978. (Although it got quite weird this year).

Yeah. I used to enjoy listening to them back in the late '80s to early '90s or so, when I was a kid. I still listen occasionally, but they have less of what I like now. (Neither I nor my parents agreed with Harold Camping even then, though.)

One thing I forgot to add to my comment about KECR setting a good example for commercial load: "... except when Craig Hulsebos comes on with his 'behind the scenes' reports or similar things." ;) :D
