Radio Direction Finders For DX

Does anyone here have a Radio Direction Finder and if so, have they used the cardioid pattern for nulling out near 180 degree cochannel stations? With GPS and even LORAN C, they've probably just about disappeared for uses other than DX. I remember Allied Radio selling both RDF radios and FI meters in their catalog.
