Radio Disney 550 AM

I was wondering if Radio Disney 550 AM got knocked off the air because of flooding. Progressive Talk 1510 The Revolution in Boston is down for the count due to flooding and I would assume that's also why GOSPEL 1190 WLIB in NYC is down too.

They should flip this to TRUE OLDIES.

Newspaper stories out of the area suggest The Blackstone is up but not severely so. It takes a lot of water to come up over the tower bases by The John Street Bridge. Even then, Disney could keep it on the air IF they strung out a longwire and used the (is it still there?) RCA killowatt backup transmitter. It has proven, in the past, to tolerate some really nasty loading under emergency conditions. I rather doubt the newer transmitter would deal with it.

Good question is whether, the site being unmanned these days, whether the Onan generator is still in the basement and whether anybody might care enough to sandbag the door and run a pump or two to keep it from being submerged.

My guess is that, if it's off the air, nobody will care enough to do anything about it until the water goes down.

To think this ridiculous idea of Radio Disney knocked off stations like WQEW in New York and even the old stand by, WHIM. What a waste is right.

What a total waste of a halfway decent frequency !!

And....to add to the silliness....the place is running in HD.

Anybody want to take a guess as to how many 6 year olds in the audience have an HD radio? ;D

There's no way WQEW would be around today. The NY Times sold WQXR last year because they were bleeding money. And that's even after the 10 year LMA and eventual sale of WQEW. And the only reason WQXR is still around today is because non-profit WNYC bought and moved it to a lesser signal.
