Radio Disney Now 12KW

I just received a call from someone who said he was the head mouse at WDWD/590. He actually sounded legitimate but was hard to hear because some goofy guy was laughing in the background.

Anyway, he (I think it was a he) informed me that the 12,000-watt daytime power of WDWD/590 has been turned on.

I'm interested in how folks far away, such as Jabba in Gwinnett, are receiving the station. Jabba's daughter should be dancing in the street.

Here's my daughter's report:

"Radio Disney's new 12kW signal is awesome. It really comes in loud and clear in Duluth and Suwanee. It also is quite immune to RFI from power lines and traffic lights, unlike WGST--of course, most any other station has a better signal than WGST (giggles)."

"The only problem is, they are really over-driving the feed to the transmitter to the point of causing clipping and other distortion. With their new more powerful signal, they really don't need to drive the feed that hard to make it listenable."

"Maybe I'll listen to Q100 less--of course, I never listened to Q100 before, so this won't really affect them!!! :)"

Update from my daughter:

"Has Radio Disney gone back to their old icky 5k signal? It sounds like it did before. Or did they go too far in cutting the feed back? Now it sounds all quiet and distant. I really have to turn it up loud to listen now. Maybe their still playing with the processing..."

testing and other work remain to be done before the upgrade is on the air full time. should be 100% next week.
