Radio Disney question

I notice you can listen live online to this big network but does this stream any Radio Disney station and play that station's legal ID? Like the one in Louisville for example. Or does the online player just play without any IDs? This is the closest board related to what Radio Disney plays so I'm asking here.

Funny you mention this, I was just getting ready to post about Radio Disney,,

First,, The answer to your question is,, the online stream,,, same as the feed from the sats,, and XM,, wont have station IDs,, they are inserted by the affiliate.

Now to my question,, a friend and I were arguing whether Radio Disney was a real CHR,, I said no,, because even though they play pop music, they arent targetting the normal CHR demo,,, he said they are a youth CHR, but I also disagree,, a youth CHR in my area would be RADIO NOW, and any of the NOW, or ACTIVE HITS type stations that are considered hip to listen to. My Argument goes that Radio Disney is a format of its own.... targetting Pre teens,, the older audience wont listen because they have a Kiddy attitude,, they also dont play alot of the CHR Chart, and what they do play is edited to Disneys standards,,, They fill in the hits they cant play with album cuts from Disney Artists,, the whole station is to promote Disney product,, sure their are some very mild non disney artists hits on their, but not many..

My other argument against them is,, why are they on 24/7, when the preteen' are in bed,,, w we used to have a Childrens station called Radio AAHs or OZ in Indianapolis on AM 810,, but starting at 9 PM till 6 AM they were known as BEAT RADIO with ALEN FREED,, Dance Music Program. Why not Broker Radio Disney in the overnights,,, not nessasarily with Dance, but with anything,,, Dance would be a great idea, but so would carrying Coast to Coast AM....

Good point and excellent suggestion. Of course, there's also the little matter of nearly all the Disney stations being on AM radio, but that's just me stating the obvious.

One issue of brokering it would be keeping the "family friendly" sound. If you play Dance or Techno or anything else, you will have to stray from this idea. Sort of like saying, "pop audiences 12-18 are in school during the day, lets play big band!" Real issues with imaging your station as "the whatever station."

Most Dance-Techno is family friendly. Certainly moreso than a regular CHR,,, but Radio OZ was a childrens format, and they carried Beat Radio at night.

During a period spanning roughly 2002 to 2008, Disney Radio played the most Dance-type music of any radio station, and for many years, was the only place on the radio dial in most cities to hear anything resembling "dance" music.

"Beat Radio" was after Radio Aahs had signed off in Jan 1998. The folks who owned the remaning Aahs owned and operated stations LMA'ed it out at nights as they were looking for sellers for the radio networks' stations after the network went dark.

Ummmmmmmmmmm Clubber but if i recall how can 810 AM in Indy be at Night after sunset when they are a Daytime only station at the time. im not sure about 810 if it has managed to get some form of a night signal now. But When they were with Radio Aaahs. they were Daytime Only. so it be Kind of hard for them to be on from 9pm till 6am

Maybe it was the cincinati or louisville outlet i heard them on,, but I know it was a Radio AAhs heard in the area. I know it was available at night here on I think 12 something on mediumwave,, which may have been the cinci or louisville outlet.

Most Radio Disney stations are AM, with limited evening signals, so it isn't likely that there would be much demand for brokered airtime clearance.

Also remember that 12mid EST is still only 8pm PST, where Disney has a substantial footprint [LA, SF, SAC RD outlets, plus the park, the studios, etc., etc., etc.]. 12mid PST is 4am EST, within an hour of AM DR on the east coast, with RD stations in most major markets, and a big footprint in FLA.

One other observation - best I can tell Radio is encoding in three markets; NY, LA, and Indianapolis. When you take a look at the 6+ weekly cume, RD NY and LA cume with 150-200,000 and the Indy station with 75,000 in the new September report. While these are not massive audiences compared to the largest cuming stations in these markets, the audience levels are healthy for a niche format. For what they do [super-serve their internal customers -other Disney platforms and their fans] there's no justification for brokering time slots "not performing."
