Radio Disney to sell KRDY and others

Dang I figured San Antonio was considered a large market, since it is a top 30 market.

I can't remember for sure off the top of my head, but I think markets 1-10 are considered "major", 11-25 "large" and 26-50 "medium". After that is small obviously, although I wouldn't consider Memphis at 51 to be "small". And there are obviously big differences between Miami at 11 and Pittsburgh at 25.

What constitutes major and small markets really depends on who you ask. I seem to remember the CMA's considering any market above 100 large, though I'm not aware of anyone who calls a market smaller than 25 major. I would argue that anything smaller than 100 is small, and very few, outside of the CMA's apparently, would disagree with me. Most definitions I've seen usually show major markets as top-20, large 21-50 and medium either 51-75 or 51-99.

Who would you think could be a potential buyer for the station?

Whoever buys it should play some Dubstep! :D

AM radio is virtually invisible to Radio Disney's target demos, and increasingly so to their parents. I'd keep an eye on those big market stations.

Maybe Radio Disney is talking about selling off small to mid-size REVENUE GENERATING stations.

I think that the Variety article confused "small" with "smaller" which would be par for the course in that publications hyperbolic style of writing.

The clearer version indicates that they are getting rid of stations outside of the top 20 markets where the facilities are particularly inferior.

Most would consider the listed markets as being "major" since there are almost all PPM markets, too.

The idea of doing a Spanish language music format on an AM in a market with multiple FMs is not a good one.

Well, they are doing it in Austin, so what's preventing them from expanding to San Antonio?

Does anyone know if they will sell off KMIC 1590 in Houston?

What AM in Spanish is successful playing music in San Antonio. Answer: None.

Houston should be kept... it is market #6 nationally.

KEDA isn't doing too well? I thought the owners still made it work.

How about 1350 which plays music at nights?

If the money is right anything is possible, but there is little chance of anyone paying what Disney would no doubt ask for 1590.

KMIC has major signal issues in the western and northern parts of Houston metro. I don't see The Mouse selling it unless Disney gets completely out of the OTA radio business.
