radio edits - old school dance songs

I've been transferring some vinyl stuff to mp3 & CD formats (doesn't appear that Alpine or anyone else is going to come out with a Turntable head unit for my car anytime soon)... some of those older songs I have I love listening to, but only club versions are on the vinyl. I know some of these songs got regular rotation airplay (in Chicago, at least) so I got to wondering if actual radio edits for some of these ever existed, or if the stations had to slice up their own edits (pretty common practice back then). Anyway, here's a few off the top of my head I've been working on chopping down in Cool Edit:

Trilogy - Love Me Forever Or Love Me Not (1991 C+C remix)
Musto & Bones - Dangerous On The Dancefoor
Pierre's Phantasy Club - Fantasy Girl
Depeche Mode - Behind The Wheel/Route 66 megamix
EG Fullalove - Divas To The Dancefloor

There's many more, but I'm really just curious whether radio edited versions were sent as promos to stations back in the day. Heck, for all I iknow, this might turn out to be a fun throwback thread. Thanks in advance!

Those two songs are excellent songs from back in the day.

Trilogy was, Musto & Bones was but not the version B96 used, it was a Hitmix remix service version that Brian Middleton had done, Pierre's Fantasy Club was never sent to radio, it was a mix show record. Behind The Wheel/Route 66 was never serviced as a radio edit. EG? I'm not familiar with that.

Many stations who had mix show jocks were able to blade a track together when we needed it for airplay.

Thanks for that info, you mentioned the Hitmix version and that actually rings a bell with me now. I found a similiar sounding edit on another comp a few years later (Powerhouse I think it was?) but I don't know if it was the same recording from Hitmix re-released or if was a sound-alike (probably so). I remember hearing the song on B96, Z95, and also Power 96 in Detroit and all 3 stations had their own version or some re-edit of that song.

The EG Fullalove song was released on Emotive Records (copyright date on my 12" says 1994), I remember B96 played it in rotation for at least a few weeks. One of the two Junior Vasquez mixes that B96 sliced down were either 7 minutes or an epic 12+ minutes in length. lol There are several long, repetitive instrumental loops and a couple of annoying long breaks in the original version(typical Junior production style) but as B96 had it edited down, sounded pretty good for regular radio play.

I'm told Powerhouse and Hitmix versions were the same with the exception of Hitmix containing a minute and a half version.
