Radio Educación - Cuidad de México (DF)

After many weeks' absence, the last remaining Mexican shortwave station has returned to the air. That would be XEPPM 6185 kHz at 10 kw. They broadcast from Mexico City with a different format than the more famous AM counterpart.

Now if RMI (XERMX) would just bring back shortwave... That station only streams and also is carried on some of IMER's HDx channels.

I don’t think XEPPM is currently running 10kw, given the signal strength here in Houston. They did use 10kw many years back, but had dropped to 5kw more recently. The 2025 World Radio TV Handbook has them at 1.4kw, but that might be low.

Not going to happen, given the overall demise of shortwave. XERMX was always a fringe player during its SW days 1969-2004 as the station’s 10kw transmitters were inadequate for serious and consistent worldwide coverage.

The returning signal seems several dB stronger now then before the long silence. Perhaps there was a rehabilitation on the old hardware. Several SDRs on the West Coast now have a decent signal.. Most telling, the CDMX SDR now has solid copy- groundwave like.

Radio Educacion USED to be 1kw. They are audible up here quite regularly. when I last heard them about... 1-2 months ago? They were weaker than usual but i have no way attribute them to anything other than conditions at the time.

They're putting an S5-S9 signal with weak audio on 6185 into the Phoenix area as I write this. If they're running 1 kW or less, they're doing well.

10kw.. its staying light too long for me to wait up and hear them......
