Radio Enfant name change and format tweak

Gatineau's CJEU 1670 AM has changed names from Radio Enfant/Ado to Oxygeneradio during the day and Real Radio at night. They're still running a children's format during the day, but sometime in the evening (around 7 or so) the station goes through a major change. It seems to be an eclectic mix of Electronic/rock/death metal/industrial, electronic ethnic and even some reggae. Basically it's underground free form radio.

The music is very adventurous, kind of dark and possibly some of the best I've heard on the radio in a while. They seem to be really into playing Portishead overnights. The music mix flows very well from one format to another, and it's a slow gradual change, giving you time to enjoy each genre. This change occured a couple of months ago and I've noticed the music at night had been very interesting for a while. Doing a search for them on facebo0k led to me discovering the change. I'm really liking this and if you're longing for some adventurous music on the AM dial, it might be worth checking out.

I was hearing (a weak signal, 80km south of Ottawa) that type of music last night and determined that it had to be CJEU, as it was highly unlikely that any of the 4 US stations sharing the frequency, would be carrying that format.

Mimo, you must be a happy camper. However can CJEU just 'flip' like that? I'll have to poke around for any word from the CRTC regarding CJEU.

What is up with CJEU??? I'm hearing classical and soundtracks (dubbed over into French) this morning. They are still running with the "Ici Radio Enfant" tag line. Website indicates no change in programming and I've yet to dig up any info else where.

Yeah, you'd think they'd just go all Christmas already!!!
That way they can surprise us all with their new format Dec. 26.

Not like that isn't being done else where, eh? :D

Actually, is CJEU not a 'community' station, as well? Not that I've paid much attention to its programming, but this evening (for example) at 8pm CJEU rolled into a Afro-Franco themed show, with an in studio guest and all. I never knew that CJEU was 'live'.

Tonight seems to be different from what I've been hearing the past few months. According to their facebo0k page, their new website is oxygeneradio.com but the link didn't work. The past few weeks have been really interesting. I've been getting quite a Portishead fix there.

This site doesn't appear to be fully operational, yet, while http://radioenfant.ca/ is (still) very much up & running. There doesn't appear to be any indication of changes, on Radio Enfant's Facebook page.

However, after checking out some twits (ahem...), there were indications, back in August, of changes being breathed into Radio Enfant. Apparently, a news conference was to take place this morning...

"OXY"Gene radio seems to be up and running. I don't speak french, so what ever it says, it says...
(I don't speak french and I AM CANADIAN)

My french is terrible as well (non existant) but I was able to gather a contest about writing a 5 minute sketch to be aired.

The music change in a way makes sense, as they proposed to be a station programming to people between the ages of 5 and 17. I'm gathering the night time programming is aimed at teens.

When they were a LPFM they would sometimes play pop music and have live announcers who would take requests. It's not inconceivable that some of the programming is live and then replayed to fill out most of their broadcasts. I know they have a studio and last night's programming seemed to be live. After midnight it went back to the underground music.
