RADIO FACEBOOK FRIENDS

I did some quick checking to see which station has the most Facebook fans. Facebook doesn't use that "fan" function anymore. Now it displays that you like the station. It gets involved since some stations have main Facebook pages, then separate ones for certain shows, but I went with a quick look at the stations themselves and how many like them. I'm surprised at the low number for WBRU but not at the relatively low ones for B101 and Coast, although TC and Kristin have better numbers than the station itself and although I didn't check Matty I'm sure he ranks up there if you include the Boston listeners.

WEEI: 14,709
HOT 106: 10,700
WPRO FM: 9861
FUN 107: 9687
CAT COUNTRY: 9454
HJY: 2458
LITE ROCK 105: 1898
WPRO AM: 697
B101: 282
COAST: 129
WHJJ: 79
WBRU: 24

It doesn't look like the WBRU page that you found is one of the typical ones set up by the station. It looks like one that has been created by facebook's new system of categorizing people's places of employment, interests, activities, favorite music, etc.

Their official fan page has 4532 people http://www.facebook.com/?ref=home#!/95.5.WBRU?ref=ts

And who beats 'em all?

And the winning station is?

NOT a station.

With NO transmitter to beg for Friends, MY BARBER'S "I Love My Rhode Island Accent" Facebook Fan page is up to -- as of this hour -- 29,446.

I had a problem accessing any WBRU link to Facebook. Of course, these figures don't include all the personal Facebook pages for radio people. I'm sure a lot of them have friends they've never actually met. I always wonder how media people with personal Facebook pages and hundreds and hundreds of friends even manage to log in without being flabbergasted as all they have to read...unless they just don't read everything from everyone.

If B101 had local people in all dayparts promoting this, I have no doubt that the numbers would rise dramatically.
